Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Remember Afro Samurai? Neither do I. Okay, but seriously, let’s talk about Afro Samurai. Trust me, it is relevant to the game we will be discussing. Afro Samurai was a really dumb, nonsensical video game about a samurai with an afro who searches for his father’s killer and takes out all the top samurai in the country. It’s a dumb series with large breasted samurai women, everyone has cellphones, and there’s Kanye West bears everywhere, all in feudal Japan. And yet I still liked it. And it must’ve been good enough to get an anime, a movie, and have the main character voiced by Samual L. Jackson. But while people can either like it’s dumb world or just see it as a lame story, everyone agrees that the character design by Takashi Okazaki. If his talent was put into something greater, it could be something that everyone can enjoy. And now I introduce you all to something greater.
The game follows our silent protagonist, not Afro Samurai, but cannonically is named Rider. And apparently, Rider did something really bad. So bad in fact that he has been imprisoned on a planet far above the earth with multiple planets separating him from the earth. But, thanks to a mysterious man named The Stranger, or Not Kuma to some, he is able to plan his escape from the prison, and is tasked with fighting all of the bosses known as Jailers. And they are in tons of variety, from a multi masked sadist with a staff, a prisoner with a laser head, an old man who can stop time, a knight with a sword and shield, and that’s just to name a few of them. And every single one of them is a lot of fun to fight if you ask me.
It should be stated, but also should be clear as day, that Furi is filled with only boss fights. There are some moments where you walk and hear about the Jailers you are about to fight, before the boss fight starts. You have a simple set of attacks. You have the fast melee attacks, a charge attack, and a ranged attack that slowly chips at enemies health. From there, you just gotta use that, as well as dodging, to beat all of the bosses with their own unique fights to them. The boss has a random amount of health, ranging from three bars to seven bars. Rider only has three, but whenever either you or the boss are knocked down, you both gain health back. If the boss knocks you down, it regenerates health while you lose a bar. If the boss is knocked down, they are a step closer to death while you regenerate all of your health, most of the time. It looks pretty forgiving, but that’s because it doesn’t take a lot for the bosses to fuck you up. Their fight styles are always changing. One minute, you could have their entire moveset memorized, and the next instant, you’ll probably lose all two bars of health to just barely survive the onslaught of their attack. Once they are down to half a bar, you have to close in for the kill and only use melee, dodging and blocking at just the right time to throw them off and go in for the kill. The boss fights are intense and challenging and really make this game insanely fun. And even if you lose, the nature of seeing their health go down makes you wanna go one more time. You got the pattern memorized, now you just gotta go once more and hopefully learn from your mistakes to take them down.
But the game isn’t all perfect. While the bosses are incredible, the character designs are so bizarre yet stylish and that soundtrack is a banner collection, the walking parts can be a little… iffy. It’s not terrible, the environments are nice, the music that builds up as you get close to the boss is a really nice touch and I am very much interested in being heard about the upcoming boss, but it’s real easy for you to walk in one direction only to realize you’re going the wrong way. Thankfully, you can set Rider to auto walk, so that makes up for it. But I think what made Furi go from a decent action game to one of my favorites was the ending of the game. And from here we are reaching spoiler territory, so…
After fighting off the final Jailer, a young girl who had no fighting ability and could only attempt to outsmart Rider, only to fail and be killed by his hands, Rider was able to make to earth, where he could finally see what he was fighting for. And once he touched the earth, it all made perfect sense. Suddenly, you realize that the Jailers keeping Rider up in that prison was for a good cause. Cause once Rider takes his first step, the earth around him starts to wilt and die. Grass burns to ashes, the waters boil, and the sky becomes a dark cloud overhead. And all Rider can do is try to find out why his existence only brings death and if there is any salvation for him, which is why he takes off to space and finds his creator, The Star, waiting for him, and preparing to invade the planet with his permission. Rider can accept and let the planet be invaded by his kind, or he can refuse, and go against his creator, and give himself something to fight for. This results in the most bullet hell esque boss in the game, and it is pretty damn fun. And this final part of the game alone made the purchase all the more worth it in my eyes.
Furi is a game that I can’t recommend enough to action game fans. It’s a nonstop set of insane combat and amazing music all the way through. I don’t know what the company has in store for the future, aside from a few awesome DLC with even more bosses included, but hopefully they got something in store for the future.

Well, here comes a game even I wasn’t expecting to talk about till I played it. When I was surfing through the indie titles of the Nintendo Switch when I had little to no games for it, one game that caught my attention was The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa. I remember hearing there was a sort of River City Ransom esque game and I thought it was this. The trailers made it look that way. Little did I know that I was completely wrong. And despite that, I couldn’t be happier with what I had played.

So YIIK was a hipster ridden game that people were very annoyed by and against. Well this time, it’s time for us to talk about a game that is hipster ridden that people are quite fond of. To an extent, of course. It does have it’s haters, but this game has far more support than it does hate. And I am referring to the indie adventure title, Night in the Woods. Or as many people like to call it, Life is Strange… But Good.
Night in the Woods takes place in the small town of Possum Springs, which has slowly been losing family businesses in place of larger businesses,...
Okay, so I know that I said before that the next review would be Night in the Woods but I feel as though this game needs to be discussed…. Boy, only the second article and I’ve already lied. In-Indie has a bright future. So I bought four, debatably five, other indie games last week. And one of those indie games was the interesting YIIK: A Postmodern RPG, pronounced Y2K, for some reason. I saw the trailer and the strange visuals already had me hooked. And just when I had purchased it, I read the comments, I saw the dislike bar, and I saw how there was not a soul on this planet who liked...

So remember when I started Corner of Horror and talked about Five Nights at Freddy’s, a horror game that I just cannot stand yet it managed to get a whole lot of publicity and popularity? Yeah, I still don’t like it. But if anything created an even bigger fandom, it had to be the indie game, Undertale. But unlike Five Nights at Freddy’s, I actually like Undertale. In fact, I love Undertale. Let’s talk about why I love Undertale so much.
Undertale takes place in a world filled with humans and monsters. After a war broke out, the monsters were forced underground and were separated...
