The words of the zeta tube were drowned out kwa a tiny yelp of an animal. Robin tightened his grip on the squirming thing as the caramel-colored pup tried to nip it’s way out of his grasp. It finally succeeded and began to run around the cave. Devin chuckled as she watched the dog sniff at the walls and dash into the kitchen. “Kenzie!” Aisling yelled as she approached the middle of the cave. “We have something for you!”
No reply from the young girl. Aisling scratched her head and began to walk to the kitchen, followed kwa the three siblings, and found nothing. “Kenzie?” Delta asked nervously. “Kiddo? Karma? wewe here?” Again, no reply, and they began to worry.
“She usually comes right when we call her,” Robin remarked. “Maybe she’s just--”
“Just what?” Aisling gulped. “Hiding? Yeah, just... hiding. In her room. She’s playing a game.” She gave a weak chuckle and started towards Kenzie’s room. The others followed at a small distance, disturbed kwa the way Aisling was acting.
The door swung open effortlessly without any squeaking on the hinges. Aisling began to scrounge through the room, looking for the seven mwaka old. Devin came in, walking past the strangely frantic Aisling, and went straight for the small desk. Scattered on it were child-like scribbles of some of the team, but hidden in the drawers were sketchbooks full of picture perfect drawings. These had been Fin’s once, pictures of her surrounded kwa friends, and of her with family. Devin bit her lip and dug through the vitabu and came up with nothing, no notes, no clues. She sighed and slid the drawer shut, turning to her siblings and shaking her head.
Delta went to sit on the kitanda but stopped. “What...” She picked up the small piece of paper. “Oh, shit, Kenzie!”
Aisling looked up. “What now about Kenzie?!”
“She ran away! She thought... oh, god, it’s our fault!” Delta looked at Robin, who grabbed the note.
“Dammit!” He punched the wall. Aisling looked at him, eyebrow raised, and he lowered his fist. “Sorry,” he muttered, then handed the note to Devin calmly. She sighed and rubbed her temples. “We’ve gotta go after her, wewe know that right?”
“Yeah, I know.” Robin growled and ran his fingers through his hair.
“Well, when are we going?” Delta watched Aisling’s reaction as she read the note, not surprised at the look at outrage, sadness and confusion on her face.
“Now. We are leaving right now, no maswali asked, we’re going.” Aisling stomped her foot onto the dark rug and nobody argued. Devin stared at the window intently, and it suddenly clicked why it was so interesting. “She left through the window! I was sure we closed it, that’s why it’s open!”
Delta smacked herself. “Makes sense. It’s the way I’d go...” This got her a suspecting look from everyone. “What? I would...”
Aisling sighed and looked out the small window. “Well, we know why and how she left. Now we just need to go where she went to.”
“Who went where?”
The teens tensed at the grave, deep voice. Delta bit her lip, muttering curses of all sorts in her mind, each one barely escaping from her tongue. “Heyyy, Batman.”
The four of them turned to find him in the doorway of the room, surveying the open window and the look on their faces. “Kenzie’s gone, isn’t she? wewe going after her?”
“Yeah. We are.” Robin crossed his arms and stared at his mentor angrily, as if daring the older man to oppose his judgement. However, he got the exact opposite.
“I’m coming.”
This caught them all kwa surprise. “Wha-what?”
“I’m coming with you. I don’t know if wewe actually acknowledged this, but I can care for my reincarnated daughter.”
Robin scratched the back of his head and shrugged. “Alrighty then, let’s go find her!”
Each one of them grabbed something, Batman even toning down a bit into his civvies They locked the puppy up with supplies in Kenzie’s room then left, unknowing of the threats that loomed over their group and Karma herself.
