She ducked her head as another loud rumbling rippled through the air. Water rushed her eyes as she hastened to the door. Lightning flashed and she went through the open portal. Another loud crack caused her to run up the stairs. She headed to her room and pulled the wet kanzu, koti off her.
She shivered in her drenched clothes then pulled off her boots. She left her wet boots and kanzu, koti on the floor and entered the adjoining bedroom. She striped out of the wet clothes and slipped into dry ones. She slipped into kitanda as thunder broke through. She settled deeper into the covers, trying to shake away the fear.
Blade looked up as someone passed her open door quickly. She put her book away and followed.
“Hey Tyler! What are wewe doing?”
“Heading out.”
She stopped behind him as he prepared his bike.
“But it's pouring out there.”
“I have to go.”
“What's wrong? Is someone hurt?”
Tyler shook his head, but didn't clarify. Blade grabbed the keys before he did and he gave her an annoyed look.
“What's wrong? Why do wewe need to go out in the rain?”
“You wouldn't understand.”
“Understand what?!”
“Blade.”
The two looked up as Terror walked closer. Her face softened and he slipped his arms around her.
“What are wewe doing here?” she asked, momentarily forgetting the situation.
“Just came to see you. And Cat had another nightmare. She wanted me to bring her to Scott. Now, give Tyler his keys.”
Blade pulled back a little, gripping the keys tighter.
“He can't go in the rain. He's a fire-caster.”
“I'm not going to use my fire!”
“Then what are wewe going to do?!”
Terror put a hand up before Tyler could answer and whispered to Blade. Her eyes widened a bit then softened. She looked back to Tyler.
“Be careful.”
She dropped the keys into his open hand.
“I will be.”
He grabbed the spare key and inserted it in the lock. He swung the door open and almost tripped on the boot and kanzu, koti lying on the ground. He pushed them to the side, closing the door. The entire apartment was dark, but he knew she was here. He started a moto in the fireplace and headed to her room. She was laying beneath the covers, but he could hear small whimpers. She must be asleep. He went to the kitanda and pulled the covers off, holding her in his arms. He soother her hair; it was soaked. His hands warmed and steam appeared. Her hair was soon dry. He kissed the juu of her head and she stirred.
“Tyler?”
Her voice was husky with sleep and she rubbed her eyes.
“Hello love.”
“What are wewe doing here?”
“Not happy to see me?” he teased with a small smirk.
“No. I'm always glad to see you. But I wasn't expecting to see you.”
“I wanted to come.”
She smiled and settled against him. He wrapped his arms tightly around her, bringing her closer. Thunder sounded and she jumped into his lap suddenly. She curled against him, clinging tightly. His arms wound around her tighter.
“If wewe wanted to sit there, wewe could have just asked,” he taunted.
She gave a small smile, trying to control her rapid breathing.
“You know me. Can't say what's on my mind.”
His face grew serious.
“You should.”
She just nodded. She began to relax some. He placed soft kisses all over her face, relaxing her further.
“I hate thunder,” she whispered.
His lips kissed along her ear.
“Why?”
“Anton Stevens, my father. He was crazy, mad, insane. Also a scientist. He hated me. My mother couldn't stop him. He.... he would beat me, abuse me. Claimed he was helping with my training.”
Her voice broke and his hold on her became protective. He kept kissing her face, waiting till he was ready to speak again.
“I'd be in his lab for days. Sometimes weeks. He'd starve me, overwork me. He let people touch me. I was his amusement, his toy. His lab rat. And the place always rang with the sound of thunder. I'm glad he's dead.”
“Oh Becca. I don't understand how people can hurt you. It makes me mad. I wish I could kill anyone who hurts you, always be there to protect you.”
She shook her head, kissing his cheek.
“I don't need that. Just you. Always you.”
He placed a hot kiss to her lips.
“You'll always have me.”
