“What do wewe mean? Of course your humans!”
Becca shook her head.
“No, Dick. We aren't. Come with me.”
Becca got up and Dick followed her down the the living room. Zatanna, Kendra, and Artemis looked up when they entered.
“Alright. I'm not going to sugarcoat this,” Becca said. “Kendra is a Neko, Zatanna is a were-wolf, and Artemis is a vampire. I'm a Dark Angel.”
Dick stared at the four girls before bursting into laughter.
“Yeah right! And I'm a unicorn.”
Dick's laughter stopped when thick black wings appeared in the rooms. Becca looked at him, hiding her wings. He looked over to Zatanna and found the black and gray mbwa mwitu that had been there that first night. Kendra turned into a white cat, looking at him. Dick looked to where Artemis had been, but she was gone. Suddenly he felt hot breath on his neck and sharp fangs barely touching his skin.
“Is this enough proof?” Artemis asked.
He felt the fangs get closer, and Becca suddenly tackled Artemis. Artemis looked up at Becca with red eyes. Dick turned in time to see Artemis' fangs pierce Becca's skin.
“Hurts like hell,” Becca informed, squeezing her eyes closed. “But I let her. She's bloodthirsty. Besides, she would feel horrible for drinking your blood.”
Becca winced with the pain and Artemis pulled her fangs out.
“Sorry Becca,” she said.
“No problem. I'm okay.”
Becca got up, putting a hand to her neck. She helped Artemis up and looked at Dick.
“Vampires usually drink the blood of the person they're attracted to, but Artemis didn't want to hurt you. She's been restraining herself for three days. She needed some.”
Dick simply nodded. A hand on his shoulder made him turn and he looked at Zatanna, who was a human again.
“There's more, Dick.”
Becca slipped out of the room and Zatanna brought Dick to the sofa. Kendra, who was also human, sat inayofuata to him and Artemis sat kwa Kendra. Becca came back into the room with a thick black book.
“This is a picture of the dragon Solaris,” Becca said, flipping to a page I the book. “This is Silverbeauty.”
Dick looked at the two pictures, wondering what this had to do with anything.
“These two dragoni were lovers. Solaris was known as the Red King. Silverbeauty's the guardian. One of them. There were three others. Each controlled an element. Silverbeauty controlled wind.”
Becca turned to another page.
“This green one is Trem. She controlled Earth. Blaze. She controlled fire. And Tsu. Short for tsunami. She controlled water.”
Becca went back to the first two dragons.
“Silverbeauty was a guardian with Trem, Blaze, and Tsu. Each of these four dragoni were Red Knights. They protected the Red King. But not without a price. In return for protection, the Red King chose one of them to play a specific role. Either servant, friend, banished ally, au queen. Silverbeauty became the queen, Trem became the servant, and Tsu became the friend, the advisor. Solaris controlled light and dark elements. Blaze was the banished, never to see her loved one again. This is the original story. And Solaris wanted no animal, no creature to go through with it. So he banished it on humans and those that resemble humans.”
Becca closed the book and kneeled n front of Dick.
“We are the Red Knights, cursed kwa the dragon that started it. And Dick. wewe are our Red King. wewe are the destined one to save us from Elithia and become the King of Arith. wewe were chosen.”
