Prologue-

The Team was in the break room. Megan had just made some cookies and the Team was talking about their latest mission when an alarm went off.

Robin pulled up a keyboard and screen. He tapped into the security cameras. It was a simple bank robbery, four masked men with guns were scooping cash out of a bank's safety vault. Bank employees and customers were laying on the floor, but no hostages had been taken yet.

"Aqualad to Red Tornado," Aqualad spoke into his ear comm as the team suited up.

"Received, what is the situation?" Red Tornado's voice replied over the comm.

"Bank robbery in progress in Happy Harbor, we are on our way to stop it."

"Understood, call if you require assistance."

"Understood, Aqualad out."

The Team was ready to move out. Aqualad shed his jacket, revealing his normal costume and joined the Team. 

"Miss Martian, is the bioship ready for take off?" Aqualad asked.

The green Martian's eyes glowed for a moment then she nodded.

"Very well, let's go!"

The Team rushed to the bioship. The boarding ramp on the little red ship opened up and the Team entered.

"Buckle up!" Megan said.

"I trust your driving," Kid Flash said.

"Just do it." Artemis replied, slapping him in the back of the head as she walked by.

Aqualad typed in the authorization codes. The bay doors opened and the bioship zoomed out into the cold winter sky.

"Initiate camouflage mode, we do not wish to attract unwanted attention." Aqualad said. The bioship became invisible.

"Uh, question!" Kid Flash said, waving his hand in the air. "Um, do we need to switch to stealth mode?"

"No, as it is not a covert mission or at night, that will be unnescessary." Aqualad replied.

"Aww! I love switching to stealth mode."

"Yeah, we know." Artemis replied. "When we were in Bialya, and you wouldn't stop."

"Hey! I had no memory! It seemed cool then-"

"And apparently it still is" Artemis replied. "To you anyway."

"Miss Martian, telepathic link."

"Established." the Martian replied.

The bioship zoomed over the harbor and into the town. It wasn't hard to tell where the problem was. Police cars raced down streets toward a large gray building. The bioship increased speed.

"Approaching the bank. Miss Martian, set us down behind the building. Artemis, Robin, drop onto the roof as we pass over." Aqualad ordered.

"Got it." Robin replied.

"Three, two, one, Go!" 

Robin and Artemis quickly dropped onto the bank's roof. Artemis aimed her bow below. Robin pulled a batarang out of his utility belt.

The bioship was setting down behind the bank when Artemis contacted the Team.

"Uh, guys." Artemis said through the telepathic link. "You gotta see this."

"What is it?" Aqualad asked.

"Someone did our job for us."

Please excuse the poor writing of the Prologue. It's mostly plot builder and this is my first time writing a YJ fanfic, but don't worry! It shall improve! New chapter every few days!

Chapter One-

The Team stood in front of the bank. The robbers were tied up and the money was in the bank's safe.

Robin bent down and looked at the rope the robbers were tied up with. What he saw shocked him. He stood up and turned around to the Team.

"This is rope Batman uses." he said simply.

"So?" Artemis said. "What makes it so special?"

"It's a special nylon chord designed specifically for Batman. It's nearly unbreakable. Only Batman has access to it."

"Strange," Aqualad said. "Could it be Batman?" 

"No," Robin said. "He's...elsewhere."

"I see, then who-"

"There!" Superboy said, pointing at the corner of the building. A figure was hiding in the shadows. When he saw he had been discovered, he disappeared. Aqualad, Robin, and Miss Martian went around one end of the bank, while Superboy, Kid Flash, and Artemis went around the other.

Robin's keen ears heard the figure near where the bioship was parked.

'Megan! He's near the bioship!' Robin yelled telepathically.

'The bioship has no life form readings.' Miss Martian replied.

'He's there! KF, get back there now!'

'Rodger that' Kid Flash replied. He ran to where Miss Martian had parked the bioship. He looked around but saw no one.

'No one' he communicated.

'Use infrared!' Aqualad said.

Kid Flash put on his special goggles. He took a 360 degree view. He saw nothing.

'Nothing'

'Could he have possibly gotten away that fast?' Aqualad asked.

"Dunno," Robin said as he rounded the corner. "But he had to leave some evidence behind."

The rest of the Team met in the back of the bank as Robin looked around.

"Ah hah!" he exclaimed.

"What?" Kid Flash asked, speeding over.

Robin looked up triumphantly, holding a small, red, dagger shaped item. Kid Flash bent down to look at it.

"Um, why is it blinking?"

Robin looked at it and his eyes widened in surprise. He threw the dagger away.

"Down!" he yelled, tackling Kid Flash to the ground. Everyone else flattened as the dagger went off. Smoke filled the air. Kid Flash got up and looked through infrared. Nothing still.

He deactivated infrared mode and waved his hands. The smoke soon dissipated. Robin and the rest of the team got up. He picked up what was left of the dagger.

"We are in so much trouble." he said aloud.

"Cave to the Team." Red Tornado's hollow voice sounded over their comm.

"Team" Aqualad replied.

"Return to the Cave, Batman wishes to see you."

"Rodger, on our way."

"We are so dead." Robin said as soon as Aqualad disconnected the comm line.

Batman, Green Arrow, and Red Tornado were standing in the main room of the Cave when the Team walked in.

"I hear you didn't stop that bank robbery." Batman said as a way of greeting.

"No," Aqualad agreed. "We did not, but someone else did."

"We found this by the bioship." Robin said, stepping forward and giving what was left of the dagger to Batman. Batman took it and looked at Green Arrow. He slid it into his utility belt and looked back at the Team.

"I'm assuming you didn't catch this person or find out who he was?" Batman said as more of a statement than a question.

"No, we did not. If not for Superboy, we wouldn't have detected him at all." Aqualad said.

Batman looked at them for a moment, he nodded to Green Arrow and left.

"We have another mission for you. We need you to-"

"Hey!" Kid Flash interrupted. He looked over in the direction of the active zeta-tubes. "Where's Batman going with my souvenir?!"

"Batman is taking the dagger to be tested." Green Arrow said.

"But-"

"Just shut up and listen to the man!" Artemis said.

"Uncle," Kid Flash corrected.

"My uncle, your superior." Artemis replied.

"Then why didn't you call him uncle?"

"Back to the matter at hand." Green Arrow interrupted. "Currently, Solomon Grundy is terrorizing San Francisco. The Hawks, Batman, Superman, and other critical Justice League members are elsewhere performing various duties. We need you to get in there and stop him."

"Um, how do you kill a zombie?" Kid Flash asked.

"Figure that out among yourselves. Tornado," he said, turning to the robot. "We have business elsewhere. Zeta-beam the Team there and join me in the Hall of Justice.

"Superboy! Maneuver Nine!" Aqualad yelled.

The Team was currently in mid combat with Solomon Grundy, who had torn part of San Francisco apart.

Superboy grabbed Aqualad's arms. He began to spin him through the air.

"Now!" Aqualad yelled. Superboy let go and Aqualad flew through the air towards Grundy.

Aqualad formed a spear from a nearby shattered water hose and rammed it into Grundy. It shattered. Grundy picked up Aqualad and began to squeeze him.

"Let him go you overgrown corpse!" Artemis yelled, shooting three explosive arrows into Grundy's fist. Grundy howled in pain and threw Aqualad. He flew into Artemis, causing one of her arrows to go askay. It flew toward a civilian.

"Wally!" Aqualad yelled.

Wally looked up. He saw the arrow and sped toward it. Before he could get there, another arrow, a red arrow flew through the air and demolished Artemis's arrow. Wally screeched to a halt.

"It's Red Arrow!" he yelled happily.

"Wally! Look out!" Artemis yelled. Wally turned in time to see Grundy's fist hit him in the chest. He flew back twenty feet into a brick wall and slid to the ground.

"That's going to hurt in the morning." he muttered. 

Grundy ran towards Kid Flash. Wally darted to the side and Grundy ran into the wall. He groaned and turned towards Wally.

"Missed ya big oaf." Wally taunted.

He ran behind Grundy again.

"Over here!"

"No, over here!"

"Here I am!"

Wally darted back and forth, taunting Grundy. Grundy roared and ripped up a telephone pole. He swung it around. Kid Flash ducked it.

"Somebody is in a bad mood." He said.

'Wally!' Megan's voice rang through his head. 'There is a fuel line thirty feet behind you. Lure Grundy there and Artemis will detonate it.'

'Does the Justice League kill people?' Wally asked.

'He's a zombie!' Artemis interrupted. 'Or hadn't you noticed that funny guy?'

'Then how do you stop a zombie? Headshots only work in video games!' Wally protested, running around Grundy.

'Just get him to the fuel line and we'll discuss zombies later!' Artemis said in his mind.

'Wally, do it. It will not kill or mortally wound him.' Aqualad said calmly.

'Aren't those the same thing?' Wally asked as he began backing up toward the fuel line.

"Here you big, dumb, old zombie! Come and get your brains! Mines huge!"

Artemis groaned.

Wally continued backing up. He tripped over something and fell on his back. The something he had tripped over was the fuel line. Grundy roared and lifted his telephone pole.

'Guys!' Wally yelled telepathically.

'Wally! Get out now!' Aqualad yelled.

Wally sped away to where the Team was standing.

"Now Artemis!" Aqualad yelled.

Artemis's arrow flew straight and true. The fuel line detonated, throwing Grundy through the air towards a building with a handful of civilians. They ran as Grundy rammed into the building. A little girl wasn't so fortunate. She fell out the window and was left hanging by one hand from a window. 

"Wally! Get her!" Before Wally could move, a figure swooped in on a zip line and grabbed the girl, throwing something into Grundy's lap. The figure  tossed the girl into a room with other civilians and disappeared. A second later, whatever the figure had dropped in Grundy's lap detonated.

The Team rushed over and handcuffed Grundy. He groaned, but couldn't resist.

Wally picked up the arrow laying on the ground. "Cool! Souvenir!"

"Let's go home." Aqualad said. "Contact the Justice League and inform them that Grundy has been defeated."

"Kid Flash to Hall of Justice, one zombie and team of young heroes ready for pick up." Wally said into his ear piece. The seven of them were zapped  to the Hall of Justice. Red Tornado, Batman, Black Canary, and Superman were waiting for them.

Superman dragged Grundy forward to Superman and walked back without saying a word. Superman's expression softened a bit, but he and Red Tornado dragged Grundy off.

"Good Job." Batman said. "I did not believe you could complete the mission, but you have proven me wrong."

"Well without Red Arrow and your help we couldn't have." Wally said.

For the first time, Batman's expression was slight shock. "My help?" he repeated.

"Yeah, you saved that girl hanging from the window." Wally said.

"I was discussing something with Superman during your mission and Red Arrow is halfway across the globe on a mission." Batman said.

"Then who did?" Superboy asked.

Black Canary and Batman looked at each other. Canary raised an eyebrow. Batman shook his head no.

"What? Who is it?" Robin asked.

Batman looked at the Team. "Do not concern yourself with it."

Batman walked over and took the arrow from Wally. "I need to test this." 

"Awww! That's two souvenirs you've taken from me!" Kid Flash complained.

"Here," Batman said, tossing the remains of the knife over his shoulder to Wally.

"Yes! Um, thanks." Wally said.

Red Tornado returned. "I will escort the Team back to the Cave." he said.

"Understood." Batman said. "Send them home and return here."

"Understood." Red Tornado replied.

Artemis was sitting in the living room floor of her apartment checking her arrows when her phone rang.

"Y'ello," she said lazily

She was surprised when she heard Robin's voice.

"We need to talk, now."

Artemis, Robin, Connor, Megan, Kaldur'aan, and Wally sat in a diner in Gotham City. 

The Team was in their usual civilian attire, though Robin was getting some funny looks for his shades.

Another reason for the strange looks may have been because Wally had twenty double cheeseburgers, three chocolate milkshakes and an entire pie on his plate. Everybody else was sipping a beverage.

"So," Wally said with his mouth full. "What did you call us here for?"

"Eat in smaller bites please." Artemis said. "You are disgusting."

"Hey! I've got a serious metabolism!"

"Finish your romantic argument later." Robin interrupted. "Back to Wally's question. I called you here to talk to you about our friendly little helper."

Chapter Two
The Watchtower-

Batman walked into the empty cafeteria. He sat down with Green Arrow, Red Tornado, and Black Canary. 

"He's showing his face too much." Batman began.

"He has a right to publicity." Green Arrow said.

"He's a member of the Justice League, he does what ordered. There's a much bigger picture here. The Team is not dumb. They know we know what they don't. They know someone is out there helping them, they don't know who."

"Why not just tell them?" Black Canary asked. "They have a right to know."

"No," Batman replied. "They can not find out yet. We can not reveal one of our best cards just yet."

"If you ask me, you did a pretty good job hiding the fact you have a special team of Junior heroes, Justice League relations, and former sidekicks performing undercover missions and taking out your laundry." a new voice said.

Batman looked over. "How did you-"

"You trained me." the shadowy figure shrugged. "What did you expect?"

"But I didn't teach you-"

"Everything?" the figure finished. "That's what your computer taught me."

"How did you-"

"I told you, I'm good."

"What do you want Sam?"

"Want? I want to stop having to sit in the dark, like now, so as not to get caught on your security feeds. I want to stop watching Luthor and Cadmus and all your other enemies. If you want me to take out your trash, put me on the Team."

"You want to be on the Team?"

The figure didn't reply, he simply stared at Batman.

"Answer the question." Batman growled. The figure remained silent. Batman walked over to him and bent down to look him in the eye. He glared at the figure and the figure right back.

"Like looking in the mirror." Green Arrow muttered.

"Batman, you will not intimidate the boy. I was there when you trained him. You taught him that fifty percent of battles are intimidation. Where this may not be a true statement, he will certainly not back down. Let us return to the subject at hand." Red Tornado said.

Batman glared at the boy a little longer then returned to the table.

"Where were we?" he asked.

"On the topic of what you're going to do with me. And don't say I'm going to follow orders. I'm not a member of this Justice League, I never have or will. I'm a loner. Now, what are you going to do?" the figure said,

Batman looked at him, then at the three other members at the table.

"Hey, don't look at me. All I did was teach him how to shoot a bow." Green Arrow said.

"Black Canary?" 

"I think the boy has done enough work for us. He can be trusted. Let him join the Team, Bruce. He's more than ready."

"It's not a matter of him being ready, it's a matter of them being ready."

"They took Artemis fine." Green Arrow said.

"You lied and told them she was your niece." the shadowy figure said.

The four members of the Justice League looked at the boy.

"Well you did. So what am I going to be? Batman's son? Batman doesn't have time for a love life though. I look nothing like Canary. Can't be related to Tornado. So what is it? Is it going to be someone else? Green Lantern?"

"Artemis is a special case." Batman said.

"I know," the figure said. "I know everything about her. Maybe more than you do."

"You certainly trained him well." Tornado said.

"Indeed," Batman said. "Very well, if you wish to join the Team, you may, but alert us first."

"Sure," the figure said. "Am I going to need a cover story?" 

"No, unless you want one." 

"I'm fine with my life."

"Good, see ya." the figure said and slipped out the door into more shadows.

"What do you want us to do? Force 'em to talk?" Superboy asked.

"No, that wouldn't work. Batman would never talk and no one on this team has defeated Canary in combat." Robin replied.

"Then what do you suggest we do?" Aqualad asked.

Robin thought for a moment. "Who's the best at faking sickness?" he asked.

"Ooh! Ooh! Me! Me!" Wally said, finishing another milkshake.

"Please," Artemis said. "You couldn't lie to Tornado or Megan, much less pass off being sick."

"Then I suppose you can?"

"Yes, in fact I can." 

"What is this for anyway?" Megan asked.

"Here's the plan..."

*.    *.    *.    *.    *. 

"I don't like this." Artemis said. She was currently on top of a building in an abandoned amusement park while the rest of the team waited for the enemy to arrive.

"Trust me, it'll work!" Robin replied back over the comm. "We'll capture some bad guys and find out who goody two-bits is."

Artemis had faked being sick, so she could sneak up and catch the mysterious helper. Robin suspected the mysterious figure had inside information, and he didn't want anyone to know Artemis would be there.

"I still don't like it."

"Stop worrying!"

"You are way overconfident."

"Hey, here he comes!" Wally interrupted.

"Team, take your positions!" Aqualad ordered.

Sure enough, just as Robin had planned, Clayface rounded the corner, roaring in their direction.

Clayface ripped up a waterslide and threw it at them. Miss Martian tossed it to the side while Robin threw some shock grenades. They detonated, but Clayface remained unfased and continued his approach.

"Okay..." Robin said. "Now what?"

"We hope your suspicions are right." Aqualad said, tossing a few hundred gallons of water at Clayface. "And our mysterious friend comes to our rescue."

Clayface roared and launched himself at the Team.

Artemis pulled an arrow back. "No!" Robin yelled telepathically. "Don't give yourself up!"

Artemis reluctantly lowered the bow. Out of nowhere, a mask was put over her face.

"You'll thank me later." a voice said. Gas filled the mask and Artemis fell to the ground.

The shadowy figure slid the mask into Artemis's quiver. He then took her bow and launched a few special arrows at Clayface. Clayface absorbed them. They detonated, splattering clay all over the place.

"Artemis!" Robin yelled in anger. He yelled her name again when she didn't respond.

"I'm not sensing a response." Miss Martian said. The Team headed for the top of the building. The mysterious figure slid into the shadows and disappeared from sight.

Artemis groaned and sat up. She was in her own bed in her usual nightwear. She gasped, remembering everything that had happened.

"What? who?" she asked breathlessly.

"Do not worry, Artemis." Martian Manhunter said. "You will be fine. It was only a knock-out gas."

"That's not what I'm worried about!" Artemis protested. "Who put me here?"

"Batman took you home when it became evident that you were not going to wake up for some time."

"Oh." Artemis said, breathlessly.

"Although," the green alien added. "Neither the Justice League nor your mother is happy."

At that moment, Artemis's mother rolled into the room.

"Artemis!" she exclaimed. "Get up! I don't appreciate the Justice League in my house!" she turned to the Manhunter from Mars. "No offense."

"None taken. I can understand."

Manhunter touched his com link. He nodded.

"If it is okay, Ms. Crock, Artemis must return to the Cave immediately."

"Couldn't you just say I'm sick, or still unconscious?" Artemis asked, pulling the covers over her head. Her mother sighed.

"Unfortunately, no." Martian Manhunter replied. 

"Go, Artemis. You have a job to do." Her mother said. Artemis groaned. 

"Give me a few minutes to change." she told the Martian. He nodded and walked out the door, followed by Artemis's mother.

"He could've warned me Batman was in such a bad mood." Artemis whispered to Wally.

"Shut up!" he replied. "I'm in enough trouble as it is!"

"We all are." Robin said.

"-Inexcusable!" Batman said. "Robin, your actions were foolhardy and unprofessional. Do I go after the first lead I get, or go with the first plan I come up with?"

"No," Robin said.

"Do not do this again." Batman said, cutting his lecture short. He walked off, cape billowing behind him. The team headed towards the living room.

"I told you this was a bad idea!" Artemis said as soon as Robin closed the door.

"Trust me," Robin said. "He's being very lenient. So what happened on top of the building?"

"Our helper got wise to the plan." Artemis replied. "Knocked me out with some gas-"

"-and saved our butts." Wally said.

Robin snickered at the fact the two were finishing each other's sentences.

"What?" Wally asked.

"Nothing." Robin said, hiding a laugh behind his hands.

"So, who wants some cookies?" Megan asked, flying into the kitchen.

"Ooh! Me!" Wally said.

"I'll help." Artemis and Superboy said at the same time.

Megan began pulling ingredients out of the cabinets while Superboy got some stuff out of the refrigerator. 

"I need a spoon." Megan said.

Artemis opened a drawer and dug around.

"This is all I could find." she said, holding up a red dagger.

"Give me that!" Robin said, snatching it away. He examined it and slid it into his belt. He ran off. Everyone looked at each other, unsure of what the Boy Wonder was up to.

Batman studied it carefully.

"So?" Robin asked.

"So what?" Batman replied.

"You know perfectly well what I'm asking." Robin replied.

Batman sighed. "Yes, it is the same as the others."

"And you know who it is, don't you?"

"Preposterous." Batman said. "Wouldn't I tell you if I knew?"

"Just like you told us Artemis isn't really GA's niece?"

Batman looked up. "How did you know?"

"I'll return the question. Why would GA send his niece to Gotham Academy?"

"She goes to your school?"

"Yeah."

"Does she know about your secret identity?"

"No, I don't think she had a clue."

"Good, don't tell the Team."

"Why not?"

"We have a reason for lying." Batman replied. "Also, it's her choice."

"Fine."

"I have another mission for you."

"Yes?"

Batman got up from the microscope and moved to the computer.

"Gotham's mayor has been sent several death threats due to his recent mysterious transaction." Images flashed across the screen as Batman talked. "However, he insists on attending the Annual Police Parade. Commissioner Gordon has said he will take every precaution, but that isn't good enough for me. I need you and the Team to get in and stop whatever someone is planning to do."

"Who knows?" Batman added with a slight grin. "You may find your helper."

O...M...G!!!! I NEED MORE!!! PLEASE DON'T STOP!!!! PLEASE!!!! I WILL NOT LIVE UNTIL I KNOW WHO IT IS!!!!!!!

Dont worry! New chapter next Friday and Saturday! That's when you find out who the helper is, and what his true purpose is... Maybe.

AHHHHHHHH!!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!! JUST LET ME KNOW!! THIS WILL BE THE DEATH OF ME!
