When I decided to do Newest Additions, I told myself that I wouldn’t worry about making sure there were a certain number of words in each “chapter”, because that was part of the reason why I scrapped it at first. I had a decent number of ideas, but there was no way I would’ve been able to make the chapters long enough. But now, I dropped that way of thinking and told myself that I would make it as long as it needed to be, whether that was short au long, it didn’t matter. I would put in what ideas I had and connect it with all the necessary things and nothing more.
I started kwa looking at the timeline to figure out exactly when it took place. I began the story with an introduction detailing all the changes and setting up what life was life almost immediately following the first movie. The packs merging, Kate and Humphrey moving into the pango overlooking the valley, the existence of the group of Mbwa mwitu loups who opposed the marriage and would later become the Rogue Wolves.
I had a meza, jedwali of contents laid out left over from earlier when I still planned to make this an entire story, so I roughly went off that as well. I knew that this was the first time chronologically that we as the audience would see Kate and Humphrey uigizaji as husband and wife, so I needed to first talk about how they both adjusted to the change of being married and living together. I also felt the need to do a sort of “in-depth” look at how exactly they felt about each other and what it was that made them upendo each other. I still made sure to hide the chapter names in the story, although they would be much zaidi difficult to recognize since there weren’t any chapters.
I never originally planned to talk about leading up to Kate finding out she was pregnant, but I thought it would be a fun thing to explore, seeing how she first realized it. Despite the Mbwa mwitu loups aging the same as humans, I decided to keep the pregnancy length the same as it is in real life, which is about two and a half months. All the dialogue came pretty naturally, and I have to say, it was fun uandishi Kate and Humphrey during a time before Missing Parents because I got to actually write their characters as their characters from the sinema and not the changed ones I made in Missing Parents and beyond.
The callback to the first movie practically wrote itself. I knew they had to tell Winston and Eve that Kate was pregnant, but then I realized that Eve might not be too thrilled about that, for obvious reasons, and I immediately thought of the part in the first movie, right when Kate and Humphrey get home, when Eve starts choking Humphrey out because she thought they “repopulated” the park in Idaho. And I thought it would make for a fun callback with a funny line of Kate saying Humphrey was fine when it happened, but Humphrey states that’s only because she was there to save him.
It wasn’t too hard to come up with the idea of Humphrey becoming a temporary alpha. Kate wouldn’t be able to hunt while she was pregnant, and the pack would still be coming out of the chakula crisis from the first movie so Humphrey would need to take her place. Plus, it’s a fun idea to explore.
I was originally going to have Humphrey go to his adoptive parents, Julie and Eric, for advice, but then I decided not to add even zaidi new characters and instead decided to have Kate and Humphrey get help from Garth and Lilly so I could include them in it. I’ve always liked Garth and Lilly and I was disappointed that I didn’t really have a chance to use them in my stories much, so I wanted to take this opportunity to do it.
Even though I was on a tight deadline at this point, I somehow convinced myself to start another short story to put in the bonus content. I realized that even though Garth and Lilly were in Newest Additions, Garth was getting a lot of attention, but Lilly wasn’t, which I didn’t really like because that was the problem with the rest of the collection that I was trying to fix kwa including them in this story.
So, I thought and thought but there wasn’t anything for Lilly to do in Newest Additions. And then I remembered there was another untold story that focused on just her, so I decided to make that into a short story, too. Garth and Lilly never got much time in the movies, which I tried and failed to fix in my six main stories, and in the end, they each ended up getting their own story.
I knew I needed to build up enough tension over the course of this story to get the opposing Mbwa mwitu loups to leave so they could become the Rogue Wolves, which is why I had them start to overstep their boundaries. At first, I was just going to have them leave kwa their own will, but then I remembered that in the sekunde movie, Runt says that they were rejected kwa Winston, so now I had to get them kicked out.
As part of my original set of ideas for Newest Additions, I had Viggo kill one of King’s Mbwa mwitu loups and then frame Humphrey in a way, but that completely went down the drain for obvious practicality reasons. There’s really not much to say about the rest of the story. Kate gives birth to Stinky, Claudette, and Runt and King and his Mbwa mwitu loups are banished. So, I’ll just songesha on to the special surprise I included at the end.
I’m not exactly sure why I decided to include the deleted scene from the first movie in this. I think it was partially because in it, Kate mentions “the pups”, but I think a bigger factor is that I, along with a lot of others, really like it. And it seemed appropriate and well, why not?
