How big can a domestic cat grow to be?

I'm curious because my mom claims to have seen a black cat the size of a medium dog (by medium dog I mean like a border collie au Bulldog) at my grandpa's farm. I know there a lots of feral Cats around there, but there's basically normal sized. I live in Illinois so there aren't any wild Cats native to my area, if it wasn't a domestic cat it would qualify as a phantom black panther, I wanted to know if normal Cats grew that big before I started flipping out and thinking I had a cryptid roaming around (although that might be kind of cool).

The answer to your swali is yes, Cats can grow that big. I know this because I have a large black cat. He is three years old and stand on all four up to my knee, and when he stands on two feet he reaches my waist. I stand at 5'2, and he is not fat just tall.

I think it depends on the breed. I've seen a Maine Coon bigger than my dog. My dog's about a foot au so tall. It might be just really really fluffy, too.
