Chapter 4: Baudelaire Student Council
Nyle looks at them while R looks away, avoiding them.
“You two must be dating. We’re really jealous,” she teases them.
“Here!” R presents the papers, “I thought she needs those before the siku ends. Why so sudden?”
“You know how authoritarian the President gets when she’s stressed,” she says getting the papers.
“Aye! And you’re one of the reasons! kwa the way, isn’t the funds issue settled yet?”
“Yes. It is.” He then explains what really happened.
“Nyle is actually the one who noticed it. If wewe want wewe can force him into the Student Council.” He sips his drink.
“Hey, wewe alisema you’re not going to force me,” Nyle complains.
“At least I’m not the one forcing you,” he removes the straw and empties his glass.
“Geez.”
“Don’t wewe want to join, Mr. Nyle? I think it’s a great idea! We really need someone like wewe in the council!”
He feels embarrassed, “Please don’t call me Mister. Just Nyle is okay.”
“Well, Master Nyle?!” she moves closer looking at him as she begs with glittering eyes.
“M—master?” he feels awkward moving back.
“Sorry Nyle, she’s a big fan,” the other girl explains.
.
“Aye! And I’m a super active member of the Nyle shabiki Club!” she proudly brags.
“Fan Club?” Nyle asks.
“Aye! Aye! Don’t wewe know about it? If wewe want, I can introduce wewe to all of the members! They will surely get enthralled when they meet you! And … and—”
“Anyway, we got to be going. The president will surely be looking for us. And Nyle, please consider joining the Student Council. We hope wewe will be one of us soon.” She farewells and then drags the other girl to the café’s door.
“Bye! Master Nyle!!” she waves, struggling not to be dragged out.
The two guys are left in the café.
“A shabiki club? I can’t believe there is such a thing,”
Nyle wonders. “R, do wewe have a shabiki club?”
“I …,” he feels disturbed, “… who knows?”
“Why not? I think you’re popular. wewe also got a full stack of shabiki letters in your mail cabinet. I just don’t know why I also got those shabiki letters,” he says while analyzing it, like a young boy trying to figure out the answer to a certain riddle.
“I’m not as talented as wewe are,” he breaks. “You see, you’re the nyota player of the soccer club, and still wewe excel in other sports. And looking at your academic performance, you’re smart as well. It can’t be helped if there’s such a shabiki club since there are so many things wewe can do.”
Nyle just stares at him without saying a word.
He continues, “Maybe wewe got those traits from your parents?”
Nyle looks down, “Yeah … maybe.” He seems to be quite upset for whatever reasons.
“What’s wrong?”
He looks back and gives a little smile, “There’s none. I just remembered something.”
R makes his way to the student council office later on since every afternoon, student council members need to ripoti to the office. They need to settle other things from the sports festival.
“We are not yet finished though. There is still the awarding ceremony for the champions inayofuata week,” the president says, already tired.
“Aye …,” she says, lightly.
“Please say that ‘Aye! Aye!’ a little zaidi energetically. You’re not like the Eumee I know,” the other girl says, sitting at her chair lazily.
The door opens and R goes into the room.
“Why’s the office filled with unpleasant aura?” he asks while going to his seat.
“Have he agreed joining the council?”
“I didn’t ask him to, you ask him.”
She feels disappointed, “You’re so lame, R.”
The Prez got confused, “Who’s him?”
The rest of them in the room look at her while she’s still confused.
