Putting this here to remind people that there's a reason that social media platforms like Facebook deplatform far-right extremism. They're not exercising "free speech". They're inciting actual violence against real people.

Between this and link, Australia now has a larger problem with far-right terrorism than they do with Islamic terrorism.

It's also the result of many within the establishment creating an environment in which people like Galea are emboldened and feel that their views are in some way acceptable. This has been done for crass political advantage.

From our own politicians:
- In early 2011, now-Prime-Minister Morrison encouraged his colleagues to "capitalise on the electorate's growing concerns about 'Muslim immigration', 'Muslims in Australia' and the 'inability' of Muslim migrants to integrate'
- In 2014, frontbencher Bronwyn Bishop ruled that Muslim women wearing the niqab in Parliament House must be segregated behind a glass enclosure
- LNP politician Cory Bernardi launched launched a Senate inquiry into halal certification. It found nothing.
- Former PM Tony Abbott decided to prioritise non-Muslim refugees in a special intake of those fleeing Syria. Months later, he publicly met and congratulated far-right politician Pauline Hanson on her election.

From our own media:
- A 2017 study found that Murdoch publications carried an average of eight negative stories about Muslims per day.
- Top Murdoch columnists regularly call for a halt to all Muslim immigration on the basis of "safety"
