As far as I'm aware they never really say, but if wewe count back 6 years (assuming he was 16-17 when his house burned down) he'd be 22-23.

I’d say Derek was 22 at the beginning of season 1. Peter says in season 3 that he hasn’t known Cora for 7 years so the moto happened about that long zamani and we’ve heard 6 years several times before that so the seven mwaka anniversary must be close.
