He just lets his kids do whatever they want. He lets the boys act like tornados, and lets Merida disrespect her mother, without disciplining ANY of them. He just sits back, laugh, and does nothif for his kingdom. He is a fool

About Fergus:
I would like to point out that earlier people were bad mouthing the Fathers that were discipling their daughters and yet now we have one that is not and he is under fire....Of course the ones that were waited a bit long to do that and it came off a bit too forceful because it was too late and the girls were out of control (Jasmine, Ariel, Pocahontas) He should have put his foot down more and I should point out that he was doing his "job" like he was suppose to during that time period and boys were given more freedom then girls (there was a lot more stress put on females to be perfect and to live up to be a perfect mother,wife, and do everything for the men folk) heck that stereotype is still around today..I am lucky in that if I ask and he has time my husband will help me with the kids and house and he does not complain too much and he is not offended that I do not wait on him hand and foot (poor thing does not eat in the morning and has to go out for lunch because I do not make him breakfast or lunch and he only gets coffee if I get up first and have it made) But hey Fergus does provide for his family and he does protect them and obviously the other lords have deep respect for him that he earned. And unlike some arranged marriages you can tell Elinor and Fergus truly love each other and thier family.

What are his father qualities?

I definitely agree he protects them and isn't at all a mean person, but a dad really, really needs to be more than that. By letting his kids disrespect their mom, he's actually kind of disrespecting her himself.
