I liked Brave a bit more but I honestly don't care which movie won because I don't care much for the Oscars.

I think controversial is a strong and inaccurate word. There's lots of disagreement on the matter with fans, but it was known for a while that Brave would grab the top prize- with the Academies Pixar Bias and the fact it won awards following up like the Golden Globe.

While I agree that WIR had more pathos and imagination and deserved the award, I wouldn't say there's a controversy. (For controversy look the Annie Awards where Kung Fu Panda won in all categories over WALL-E- not out of merit but because Dreamworks bought votes at the Annies). THAT'S a controversy.

This wasn't, critics and film scholars predicted accurately. that Brave would gain the award. So yeah. But my favorite out the films was WIR.

@kenzieiscool, Dreamworks really bought and bribed the votes? It's not surprising though. Dreamworks had always been a hit and miss until two years ago

Brave might not have been a fucking mess
but it was predictable and the bitchiest and lest sympathetic Disney Princess.
The only thing I really liked was her hair (come on it awesome)

Wreck at Ralph was contemporary, moving and very funny. It's quirkiness and originality mirrors that to the rare Great original Disney movies, like fantasia, Lady and the Tramp, and the Lion King.

People need to chill over this. It's not that big of a deal...
I loved Brave, I think it does deserve to win (even if there is Pixar Bias most of the Pixar films still deserve to win awards). It was a really wonderful film and I really enjoyed it.
That being said, I did enjoy Wreck it Ralph more. It's just a perfect film <3
Rise of the Guardians should have gotten more credit though. Now that is something I will debate over.

I liked Brave, but I loved Wreck-It Ralph. Both are good movies and I can see why Brave won, but I was really hoping that Wreck-It Ralph would win.

Animated_Paint: Yes, RotG was heavily overlooked. It is one of the most beautiful animated films I've seen, and I was actually more impressed by their animation of sand and shadows than with Pixar's animation of Merida's hair.

Jayden-G: Yep! It doesn't add up. WALL-E was incredibly well received at all other awards that season- people were even surprised it wasn't nominated for Best Picture. What happened was But It lost horribly at the Annies. Pixar and Disney have actually withdrawn from the Annies

Or if you don't want to read though all of that, it's explained simply on wikipedia:

I agree with you, that Dreamworks is a hit or miss. They have some killer films and some horrible ones. But as a mega company they have some skeletons in their closet. So does Pixar (We still dont know all the details related to Brenda Chapman being kicked off of the directors seat for Brave) and Disney (See Disney strikes of the 1940s)

Wow, what a shady situation. The more I hear about Jeffery Katzenberg and Dreamworks, the more I despise them. The way they stole Pixar's but idea for Antz, and them attempting to bribe Pixar to push A Bugs Life to 1999, but when they refused, Dreamworks rushed production, so Antz could be released first. Their early movies were moderate successes at best, and only got attention when Shrek premiered. From then, they were hit and misses, hits being Shrek 2, and misses being Sinbad and Shark Tale. They only became consistently good in 2008-2009, the same time Disney bounced back up. Thank you for the links and info abou the Annie Awards.
