My dear mashabiki of Glee,
My name is Patrick Martens and I am the boom operator on Glee. I'm the sound guy who holds the microphone on a pole over the actors as they speak. I've been privileged to work on the onyesha since we first started shooting the pilot, the first episode, back in October 2008. It has been one of the pleasures of my career to be involved in a program like this, something that is utterly unique, where the standards of quality are far superior to anything else on television. And it's been a thrill for us, the crew, to watch our family in the cast grow up before our eyes and achieve the success they deserve based on their extraordinary talent. They are kwa far the hardest working actors I have ever known and it's wonderful that you, the fans, have embraced them and the onyesha with such warmth and acceptance.
I write this note to wewe in regard to a very personal matter. Almost three years ago, I Lost my best friend, my sister, to breast cancer. She was 35 years old and left behind a husband and two of the greatest kids (aged 3 and 7) you'll ever want to meet. With the help of my family at Glee, I was finally able to get back on my feet emotionally last mwaka and now I feel a powerful urge to do my part in slaying the beast of breast cancer. I have committed to walking in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk For the Cure in Seattle this September (2010). It is a sixty-mile charity walk to raise funds for research in the battle against breast cancer, and my goal is to raise one million dollars.
Which is why I write to you, the fans. I have met so many people who adore Glee, from a teenaged student in Illinois to an eighty-year-old retired teacher in Ohio to a twenty-seven-year-old ex-Marine in California...it's been a thrill for me to meet so many people who have been touched and affected kwa our work. There has been one common factor among all the mashabiki I've met: wewe are all very good, genuine people. I believe that Glee interests people who can relate to the characters and the themes presented on the show, people who are Victorious in the presence of seeming hopelessness, the underdogs who are able to laugh at and triumph over even the worst odds. Folks like wewe and me, whose life experiences have molded us into heartfelt and caring people.
I would like to very humbly ask wewe to help me achieve my goal of raising one million dollars to help find the cure for breast cancer. I don't want to see another human being have to go through what my sister went through, and if it means raising money to fund the research that will ultimately destroy that beast, then I'll do everything in my power to raise it. I'm asking for the quarter found under the car kiti, kiti cha au the dollar wewe find between the kitanda cushions. A dollar, two dollars, five, ten...no amount is too small, and no amount is too large. Every donation is tax-deductible, too.
Please don't send the money to me personally. I just do the fundraising and the walking, the donations go directly to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. wewe may donate at their website: www.the3day.org. Click on "Donate" and either tafuta for my name, Patrick Martens, au my team, 4UJJ (J.J. was my sister's name). If wewe are unable to donate online with a credit card, wewe may click on a link that will print out a donation form and tell wewe where to mail it with a check. If needed, wewe will receive a receipt for tax purposes once the donation has been made.
Rest assured that my request is entirely legitimate and is not any form of scam to cheat wewe out of your money. If wewe have any maswali at all in regard to the walk au the charity, feel free to contact me at poepatrick@aol.com. Please write "Glee" in the subject line so I don’t accidentally futa it.
If wewe even consider making a donation to my cause and this charity, I thank wewe from my very soul, and I thank wewe for honoring the spirit of J.J., my sister. She would've been a die-hard Gleek, too.
With my most sincere thanks and respect, I am,
Your friend in Glee,
Patrick.
