5 questions we're asking about the new J.K. Rowling film adaptations
Warner Brothers have confirmed a three part Harry Potter spin off series
J.K. Rowling has sent fans in to a frenzy AGAIN
After J.K. Rowling sent fans into a frenzy last week by tweeting a riddle offering a clue about the next film, Warner Brothers have confirmed that they will be making three new films.
Rowling broke her silence with this post to her Facebook page:
The new film series, written by the author, will be inspired by Harry Potter\'s Hogwarts textbook \'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them\' by Newt Scamander.
Fantastic Beasts was published in 2001 with the proceeds from the sale going to Comic Relief.
The three films will be set before Harry\'s time and are said to be neither a prequel nor a sequel.
David Yates, who directed the final instalment of the Harry Potter series, is already on board for the first new film.
The three movies will be released in 2016, 2018, and 2020.
Here are the questions we\'re asking about the new film...
The first film will be set 70 years prior to the Potter films, in 1920s New York. We haven\'t seen wizards outside of England before, so this is VERY exciting (especially for American audiences).
It is set to be filmed at the Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, which is also the home of the Harry Potter Studio Tour.
Hopefully a return to filming won\'t affect the fantastic tour.
Nothing has been confirmed at the moment, but Newt Scamander wrote a textbook for Hogwarts students - so it would make sense if it was at least mentioned.
Rowling has confirmed that the films will be set in the same universe, but before Harry. But this doesn\'t mean some of the older characters won\'t feature.
Although the first film is set in the 1920s, the following two could certainly follow Newt\'s career into later years, leaving the possibility for the return of younger versions of the older characters.
We\'d really like to see a further exploration of the young Marauders.
Splitting films into two or three parts seems to be a trend that isn\'t going away. However, the book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them is only 42 pages long. 42!
Rowling has said the films will be inspired by Fantastic Beasts, rather than a direct adaptation so let\'s hope she\'s got lots of other ideas.
Ah well, if it means more of Rowling\'s writing, we\'re pleased.
