What exactly is the Hunger Games?

It's a dystopian series about how in the future, the country is separated into 12 Districts and one Capitol. Every year, in order to remind the people of a failed rebellion au something, the Capitol has one girl and one boy from each district between the ages 12 and 18 drawn to participate in the Hunger Games, a national televised event in which each child is put in an arena with limited supplies to kill each other off, and the last one alive is the winner. A sixteen mwaka old girl named Katniss from District 12 volunteers in place of her twelve mwaka old sister. The first book is about how she does in the Games and her experience. She bonds with the other D12 tribute, Peeta, who is basically in upendo with her. They eventually rebel in some way (spoilers) and then it starts a national rebellion which they have to fight in. The sekunde book is about this rising and another Games which Katniss and Peeta are dragged into, and the third one is about the war itself and is pretty depressing. And that's about it.
