Personally if wewe ask me I think the best characters are ones with flaws but develop through the story. Who are complex and have interesting backgrounds. There also doesn't NEED to be a princess in ever story. She can just be a kind female character who is inspired kwa the main character and thinks he's a good person. The villain doesn't always have to be one. They could be a tragic villain but you'd have to elaborate on their past and such. Now for the mentor and subordinates well one of those don't have to be even in a story. wewe don't need a mentor to help the "hero" get an even bigger reason to murder the "villain" and for the subordinates well those good be on both sides.
