I heard the only TRUE form of medicine happens to be NATURAL medicine. That is true?

Also natural form of medicine does NOT happen overnight but rather takes (some) time for their effects to show, correct?

Oh BOIIIIIII

I’ve been waiting for this day. The siku fanpop discussed the bullshit claims of alt-med.

1. The majority of conventional medicines ARE derived from nature.

How do scientists and researchers actually make medicine?

First comes a process of discovery. This can be an investigation of older remedies (eg. cinchona bark was used kwa the Quechua to treat malaria… this is where quinine comes from, which is still used today), au kwa screening a ‘library’ of natural substances (this is how many modern antibiotics were discovered), au can simply come down to lucky chance (eg. penicillin was discovered because a dude accidently let fungi grow in his bacteria dish while he was on holiday).

So scientists get a natural substance. It doesn’t do much as is. It’s often not very potent, and the other stuff in the ‘chemical mixture’ can cause bad side effects.

So they take the substance and improve on it: they work out the active ingredient (the component that’s actually producing the therapeutic benefit), extract it from the other things that can cause side effects, purify it, and refine it. The end product? A very precise medicine with high potency and minimal side effects.

It is a natural product. The process just increases its benefits (potency and efficacy) and decreases its detriments (harmful side effects). It also allows us to control dosage much zaidi effectively, so we’re not giving too much (bad consequences) au too little (no consequences at all).

Examples: aspirin is derived from the leaves of the willow tree, antibiotics are bacterial and fungal derivatives (they’re actually the weapons the microorganisms use against each other in a microscopic arms race!), many chemotherapies are plant-derived (eg. vinca alkaloids).

So “natural medicine” isn’t the only natural medicine. At best, they simply use the crude precursors that are not as precise and efficacious, and have zaidi side effects due to the ‘chemical mix’. Often they use substances that do not work at all.

If anyone is interested in the drug discovery process, I have a heap of slides from my microbes unit that I can share with you. It is actually incredibly interesting.

Ya but if one was to idk learn about alternative medicine and not be an idiot with it we can probably utilize it it to a degree. Both forms of medicines can fuck wewe up agreed. I just don't think we should ignore completely friend.

Nah.

Natural medicine can be good but it's just fluffing around tbh. Prescription medication will make the difference. Natural supplements on the other hand are good to take.

No

Just because something is natural, doesn't make it better. Cancer is natural, all kinds of poisons are natural. Nature is trying to kill us all and only through science and scientifically proven methods of medicine can we stave off nature's murderous grasp

I hate to say it here but nature isn't this beautiful magical thing. We exist in spite of nature, not in harmony with it. My nature is beautiful phase ended the moment I had to watch the life leave a calf's eyes as it was carried off and ripped apart kwa coyotes, au that time I had to race a ranch hand to the hospital because he got bit kwa a snake. He didn't make it

It’s unfortunate that you’ve had such bad experiences with doctors, but I think the ones like wewe encountered represent the worst of the profession. They were certainly not following best medical practice. They may have even breached their standard of care to you. But this is not just an issue confined to medical doctors. There are also A LOT of bad alternative medicine practitioners out there. Believe me, I just did an internship in a medical law firm and there were a good deal many cases of alternative med practitioners being outright negligent. People also like to support the use of alternative medicine kwa suggesting that medical doctors and the medical industry are driven kwa money and greed. This completely ignores the fact that alternative medicine is just as profit-driven as any other – it’s an industry worth $34 billion per year, and its key players aggressively use lawsuits and lobbying to maximise their profits and quash any possibility of regulation.

Both natural medicine and modern medicine can hurt you. It just depends on who prepares it,what dosage, what it is,is it the right remedy for alisema thing, etc. There's a multitude of case kwa case scenarios.

I'll give wewe a few examples

Aloe Vera is actually an extremely medicinal plant and people have been using the juisi and leaves for centuries. That will cure and it has cured alot of things kwa itself au with mixes of other plants for centuries

Some psychotropic can really fuck wewe up even if the doctor thinks wewe need it. I had issues with walking when I was younger. My Mom was freaking out trying to give me help. She went to this one doctor who essentially wanted to break my legs and reset them (Even though there was nothing wrong with them) He thought it was physical. On juu of that he wanted to give me medicines that will have made me drool and forever be out of it in an asylum au my home.
Thus if I took it. I wouldn't be here right now to have this conversation with wewe guys. He thought I had physical and mental issues. I am 100% fine today as I do have the same issue. My mother who was working in the medical field at the time knew about the medicines that quack was giving me. She asked him very sternly "Would wewe give that to your son?" He replied. "But this is not my son" My mother repeated her question. And he was quiet. At that point my mother took me to another doctor to get help. That guy wanted to experiment on me. Alot of things are zaidi filled with gray areas than some would care to admit.

Depending on an individuals knowledge of the field. nyumbani remedies AND drugs can be useful.

If anyone disagrees with me that modern medicine is mostly useful. Do look online on foramu where people have gotten used to some medications because they take it so much. Look up scenarios where the modern medicine doesn't always help au look up where medications made a decent amount of illnesses, pains, cancers, etc worse than before. The world isn't in black and white. (You can argue that modern medicine isn't perfect but natural remedies isn't perfect either) Both should be used on a case kwa case basis.
