I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Welcome! Take a Scroll :) — “You can't upendo somebody wewe don't understand”...
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
“You can’t love somebody you don’t understand” —Ingrid (4x07)
Now, this quote really stuck out for me. She may have been speaking about Snowing and Emma but the quote translates to every relationship on the show. And Swan Queen, because of this quote, reaches a new level of amazing.
Emma herself has said that no one gets her like Regina does. But when you look deeper, the connections get so much bigger.
1. As children, Emma and Regina’s choices were taken from them by their parents:
Cora had Regina with the idea that her baby would be queen. Before Regina learned to walk, Cora had her prepping for the throne. She even named her Regina, which means “Queen”. Regina’s fate was directed by Cora.
Emma, as a baby, was put in a wardrobe and sent to our world. He parents made such a decision without thinking of the consequences that it would have on Emma. Emma’s fate was directed by Snow and Charming.
2. Growing up, Emma and Regina had no control over their lives. They felt trapped.
Cora controlled Regina’s life, making her go to tea’s, wear certain clothing, etc… Then, when Leopold arrives, Cora accepts the proposal herself, taking the decision away from Regina and effectively forcing her to marry a man probably three times her age. She had no free will.
Emma was controlled, essentially, by the foster care system. She was told where to go and for how long. Then, she would live by the rules of whatever home she was in, having no say herself. She had no free will.
3. Emma and Regina were betrayed by someone they loved.
Regina cared for Snow White, possibly loved her, and when Snow went against the warning and told Cora about Regina and Daniel, Regina lost her True Love.
Emma loved Neal. She had been ready to settle down with him. But he betrayed her, letting her to go to prison.
4. Emma and Regina changed after the betrayals, going to “dark” places emotionally and geographically.
Because of Snow’s betrayal, Regina married the King and lead a seemingly miserable existence. She became the Evil Queen, seeking vengeance and losing her innocence.
Because of Neal’s betrayal, Emma went to prison, where she lost the rest of her innocence.
5. Emma and Regina gave up or lost the thing they loved most (at the time).
In order to seek her vengeance, Regina had to kill her own father, the only person to stick by her through out her reign.
In order to give Henry his best chance, Emma gave Henry up for adoption.
6. Emma and Regina led very solitary, lonely lives before meeting each other.
Regina continued being cold and heartless during the cursed years, leading to isolation.
Emma purposefully kept others at arms length in order to avoid getting hurt.
7. Emma and Regina both felt something the night they met, whether it be a sense of challenge, hatred, fear, or attraction.
8. Emma and Regina fought HARD for Henry. They both loved him immensely. They are mothers.
9. Emma and Regina fell into relationships that weren’t right for them.
Regina is dating a man that has not put her first, a man that is expecting a child with her sister, a man that doesn’t really know her.
Emma is dating a man that never took no for an answer, that pursued and pursued until she gave in, a man that still lies to her constantly.
10. Emma and Regina care about each other and their family unit.
11. Emma and Regina are looking for a home and I think they’ve found it, whether they realize it or not. Their home is their son and each other.
So, if A&E were trying to imply that in order to truly love someone, you must understand them, they are pointing to Swan Queen. Those two women understand each other like no one else. Take it from Emma:
