How perfect I finished book 2 today and book 3 comes out tomorrow? I'm never this lucky! I'm a new fan. So I'm getting in with my own prediction before I lose the opportunity before we've all read the third book and everything I write in here is wrong. I'm sure this will be like a hundred other opinions but I'm uandishi it anyway because I want to get it's amazingness off my chest (so I can get some homework done!) before I have even zaidi to think about and all my guessing is over!
The Relationships
I'm Team Peeta. I'm guessing the ujumla, jumla consensus is Peeta? Even if she doesn't know it herself, I know Katniss is in upendo with Peeta. Well I'm 85% sure at least. There's a difference in relationships which makes them hard to compare. Peeta and Katniss need to touch to feel connected and to reassure themselves that the other's safe. Sharing the same kitanda for comfort isn't what Marafiki do - not even close friends. Maybe faking for the Games is what started it but Katniss feels genuinely safer if she can feel Peeta's there with her.
As for Gale I think she loves him too but she isn't sure in what way yet. When she had the chance she didn't consider Gale as a romantic option, even if she knew she felt strongly for him. And when she's thrown into these life threatening situations with Peeta and it does become romantic she can't help attaching the new experiences to What If's about Gale. In a way even though Katniss probably knows Gale better than Peeta, but she still needs zaidi time with him to learn what way it is she actually loves him.
We know less about Gale even though Katniss knows him better than Peeta. I think this probably made me naturally side with Peeta because I know how devoted he is to Katniss. I know that he only wants to live if Katniss does as well. And so if she chooses Gale, I know that Peeta would have Lost everything. For a character who I really upendo (I mean really Katniss if wewe don't want him I'll have him!), someone with such integrity and devotion, I don't want his story to end in such a depressing way. This is where the substitute comes in.
The Substitute
Generally I've noticed in upendo triangles - with Hollywood stories at least - the main character chooses who they want and the left over person either dies (usually after giving them their blessing) au finds someone au something else as a consolation. It's either tragic, a mutual parting au a substitute (like a new upendo interest). When there's one character left who people genuinely upendo (in this case I'm predicting Gale) it's too sad seeing them heartbroken with no consolation. It's like they lose. And we all know losing is "bad" so it doesn't usually happen. So there's usually some consolation au substitute to ease the pain of losing their prize (in this case Katniss). It doesn't even have to be a new upendo interest it could just be the comforting knowledge that the person she chose will make her happy. au it could be some other purpose they've found which they can focus on.
For Gale, I think it could be the rebellion. Notice when he heard of the rebellion he refused to run away with Katniss but Peeta still wanted to? It seemed to onyesha to me what Peeta alisema himself - that he didn't have anything else to live for. At least not the rebellion like Gale does. Gale's strong and passionate, I think he would make an excellent leader. Peeta could too, but he doesn't think it's an option over having Katniss like Gale seems to.
Another upendo interest for Peeta doesn't seem like an option either. Again we don't know if Gale is devoted to Katniss and no one else because Gale hasn't had the chance to say like Peeta has (I bet he probably would if he did have the chance - I just might not believe it as much as Peeta). But since Peeta has alisema there isn't a point in living without her, we know that if she did choose Gale he probably wouldn't be open to someone else comforting him like Madge - who I've seen a couple people on here recommend for Gale. So Gale has options, he has a substitue au consolation if he needs it whereas Peeta doesn't. It's Katniss and life au nothing and pretty much death.
I'm not saying I choose Peeta because otherwise he'll be miserable and die. I'm saying this is the general pattern in modern stories - and since Gale has a substitute to fall back on and Peeta doesn't, Collins has probably set it up so that Katniss will ultimately end up with Peeta. That's my prediction. My personal preference for Peeta is mainly because of his integrity and devotion. He's pretty much just a great guy who doesn't want the Capitol to change him into a killer. And since he's survived two Hunger Games without letting them taint his values, he wins my vote. That's why I'm Team Peeta.
I hope at least one person will read this all the way through...
