I stared at my tiny room’s ceiling. The paint is starting to peel off and Dad’s been bugging me to work on it. I don’t want to. I just wanted to lie in kitanda and do nothing. Do nothing but think of her, dream of her.
Once again, her beautiful face flashed before my eyes…
“D-do wewe want me to l-leave? So wewe could be free?” She asked brokenly.
I winced at the memory of her lovely face torn with pain. That look on her face haunted me for months now.
“Do wewe want me to haul your stupid butt out of this room, Jacob Black?” Leah growled from the doorway.
I glared at her.
“Get lost, Leah.”
“There’s no sense in moping around. She’s in Dartmouth, now. This is your stupid idea. So, get over it.” She snapped harshly.
Leah sided with her step niece. She thought my idea was completely rash and stupid. I can’t blame her.
She sat on the floor kwa the doorway. “I never really thought wewe were completely brainless until now. Oh, correction. Completely heartless will suit wewe better.”
I squeezed my eyes tight forcing the tears back.
She cleared her throat and murmured, “Sorry.”
I sighed.
“What really made wewe decide to let her go, Jake?” She asked softly, almost sympathetically.
“Don’t want to talk about it.” I alisema under my breath.
“You obviously still upendo her. Why shove her away?”
“For the upendo of God, Leah, leave me alone!” I alisema through gritted teeth.
“You’re falling to pieces, tough guy. wewe just can’t expect me to face the other way.”
I have refused to phase. I don’t want the pack to suffer with me. I don’t want them to know how much this cost me. Besides it was much harder to deal with this when I'm human. I want that. I want to feel undiluted pain. I want to punish myself.
The only time I gave in was when I tried to follow her to the airport, the siku she left for Dartmouth. I wanted to explain myself, to make her understand but I was too late. I saw how determined she was to forget about me.
“Please, tell me Jacob. The whole pack’s worried. All of us stayed away from the Cullen’s place. We don’t know how they would treat us. Edward very nearly hunted wewe down for breaking his precious daughter’s heart. The treaty’s almost back in effect. Sam isn’t happy about it and neither is Carlisle. Seth is going crazy, too. He missed Esme’s cooking.”
I rolled my eyes at her. “You know the Cullens won’t touch a single hair on your body. Bella won’t allow it so cut the whining.” I stared sardonically at her. “or do wewe miss the Cullens now, too?” I asked her sarcastically.
She made a face and didn’t respond. Though, I know she is far from fond of our former enemies, she was way past any misgivings she had before.
“Are wewe going to tell me why wewe broke up with Nessie au not?!” she demanded.
I didn’t answer her.
She suddenly bolted up from the floor and grabbed my cell phone from the bedside table.
“What do wewe think you’re doing?” I demanded.
Her eyes became dangerously determined.
“Why don’t we give Nessie a call? Maybe I could gain some information from her.”
I was shaking uncontrollably now. I stood in front of her.
“Don’t wewe dare!” I alisema each word separately, threateningly.
“Is that a command my dear Alpha?” she asked sarcastically.
I clenched my jaw tight and squeezed my eyes shut. I could see red haze beneath my lids. Someone help me, I could definitely strangle this girl right now.
“I don’t think so.” She quipped, answering her own question.I opened my eyes and saw her finger hit the sped dial.
“Leah…” I growled but my feet remained rooted on the bare wooden floor, my moyo stopped beating as we both listened to the ringing on the floor.
What would I say to her?
Would I beg her to come back?
“Why didn’t she answer her stupid phone?” She tossed my own battered phone on my kitanda as I gave a huge sigh of relief. I sank on the floor.
“Do that again, Leah and I’ll….” My threat was interrupted kwa my suddenly ringing phone. Nessie’s number flashed on the tiny screen.
“Aren’t wewe going to answer her call?” Leah asked, immediately knowing who it was.
I was out the door of my house in a flash. My clothed ripped into tiny shreds as I phased. I run as fast as I could from the ringing phone.
Once again, her beautiful face flashed before my eyes…
