It's a very tense scene in the movie, after everything's spun out of control and people have been killed. In act one, what do they have to be cool about? 'Gee Officer Krupke' fits perfectly into the scene before the war council and (I think) suits Riff's character better.

While I like both, I think "Cool" makes sense before the war council because they're bing reminded not to do anything before the rumble and to appear good in front of the enemy.

i think it just fits better after the rumble. they dont really have much to be cool about BEFORE the rumble. although i love cody green singing it on broadway.

After the Rumble is the perfect time and place for it as they need to be on their own to get what they all need to do/be. I think it's better sung after deaths rather than just in front of the the war council.
