Does it bother wewe when people use chat speak and/or really poor grammar?

As a proud massive lover of words, yes, it does bother me a lot. I find it very hard to understand why, because nobody sees who is writing, that the raw basics of vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, conjugation, etc. should suffer our laziness, just to “save” time au look funny. I think those who “do not care” do not realize how privileged they are to be able to express themselves in writing, while so many can’t. It’s a matter of respect and maturity, for ourselves, and the ones who read us. As far as I am concerned, I always have my dictionaries beside me, whatever I write, to whoever I write, especially on this kind of site. As this is all what my other fellow members know about me at this present moment, I don’t see why I should give another “image” than the human being I am. Life never taught me irony au arrogance, just gratefulness for all that freedom that is aliyopewa to me. I feel much better kwa making the best out of it. Don’t wewe agree?

Yes, but I don't complain. The chat speak bothers me the most because it really doesn't take that much zaidi effort au time to type the words out. I get one au two words (I mean, this is the internet, not a college English paper) but wen dey tipe lik di it drivs me craze!!!

I'm also a complete and total grammar nazi. Like with the chat speak, I can over look some things but typing in all caps, having the first letter in every word capitalized, having no capitalization at all, and/or using no punctuation grates my nerves to no end.

Yes, but then I remember how I struggle with Maths and it doesn't bother me as much. Everyone finds something difficult. :)

This isn't really an excuse for chat speak though, just for poor grammar/spelling/punctuation. Chat speak still annoys no end, and it makes the person using it look immature.

because I am not english so my english is not so great and there are grammar mistakes in my writing, but I can't help it.

Only is the person is obsessed with lol-ing everything and I don't understand what they're saying.

Yes. *resists urge to strangle* Actually, I don't want to strangle them, but it really bothers me. It's usually hard to understand and a huge distraction to the actual point.

If someone is texting me and they use it, I don't say anything, but if it's in writing, that's just unholy. That's when I decide to speak up.

Oh yes, it bothers me all the time. I mean, I understand if you're chatting on the internet, but on anything else, like e-mail au a paper, it gets really frustrating! I know they're trying to type fast, but is it so hard to proof-read it yourself before handing it over au sending it?

Yes, but that's because I have,like,OCD and stuff.

Oh my gosh! It bothers me so much! It's one of my ultimate pet peeves when people have bad spelling and grammar. I think it distracts me too much from the story because it becomes a challenge trying to read it.

Sometimes, it especially bugs me if the grammar errors are severe.

But I tend to not pay that much attention to grammar mistakes; I concentrate zaidi on the story. To me, what makes a good writer is zaidi of the creative, wonderful stories he/she can think of, not his/her grammar.

Really, it doesn't bother me on MSN when me and my Marafiki are talking. But when people use it publicly, like here, it can get very annoying. Especially when they ask wewe to judge their work and to see if it's good, and wewe have to Google every other word to see what it means. Also, when people are trying to make a point, and they use chat speak and also spell a lot of the words wrong, it irks me. It makes their point seems less factual. Take this as an example: (I have NOT seen this anywhere, I just made it up) rufle ar beeter than any outher chips, cux, lik they rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (ruffle are better than any other chips, because, like they rule!)

Yes. It's zaidi annoying when people get mad/irritated because wewe can't read their foreign language too. -_-

It depends in what circumstances. For instance, I think text speak is fine in texts but not in e-mails. When people use text speak in chat and stuff then that's alright so long as it is clear what they are saying, for example "fine, u?" is alright, but not "cd b btr, wot abt u?". I have spent ages in the past just learning text speak so I could understand my Marafiki when we were having a conversation! I often use OMG and LOL but that's about it. Not capitalizing letters isn't too bad in texts and chat rooms- nowhere else. Same with punctuation.

I don't mind if people use bad grammar au poor spelling kwa mistake- I recieved an e-mail recently where my friend repeatedly spelt 'certain' as 'curtain', which was just a mistake, but if people use it to be lazy then it does annoy me.

Well, not really.. Its understandable I think. May because they are out of school, and they are trying to communicate with others.
