Chapter Ten
Rafe blew gently on the back of my neck, sending shivers racing down my spine.
“I need to get wewe home.” His lips brushed the juu of my ear. I sighed. I didn’t want to go nyumbani yet. After everyone had gotten done swimming, we had returned to the moto and just sat and talked. The others were joking around while Bristol and Parker argued about who was going to win the upcoming mpira wa kikapu game. But I was snuggled in Rage’s lap, his arms squeezing me gently. He rested his chin on my head, slowly moving it back and forth. His whiskers caught my hair and made my stomach warm. I giggled and slid my hand up to cup his cheek, his five o’clock shadow teasing the sensitive skin of my fingertips.
“I don’t want to go nyumbani yet.”
His one hand traced valentines on my though, while the other was secured around my middle.
“I want your mom to like me, and in order for that to happen, I have to be responsible. So up and at ‘em little missy.”
He started to stand, dumping me off his lap in the process.
“Hey!” I protested, and then screeched as Rafe slung me over his shoulder.
“We’ll see wewe guys tomorrow!” Rafe called and started down the trail back to his truck. I called out a feeble goodbye with the others laughed. Well atleast, most of them laughed. There was only one who was glaring at me. Emma’s eyes burned a hole in my face. Natasha was looking at me warily, while Jess grinned and waved goodbye. I offered a small smile as Rafe’s long strides carried us out of sight.
“Rafe! wewe can put me down now!” I scolded as I flopped around.
“Mmm.. I don’t think so.”
His hands slid across my thighs and tingles raced through my body once again.
“Rafe!”
“Hmm?” His body vibrated under me.
“Drop me. Now.”
“If wewe insist.” His hands released their hold on my legs and I screamed as my face rushed toward the ground. I let my mind take over as I broke the impact kwa absorbing the shock with my hands, and tucked my body into a summersault, ending up in a crouch.
I turned to face him, still crouching.
“I didn’t mean literally!” I snapped.
Rafe’s eyes were wide with disbelief.
“What?” I ground out between my clenched teeth.
“You’re fast.” He looked at me cautiously.
“Excuse me?”
“I was going to catch you, but wewe were already moving.”
“Oh.” I stood and slowly dusted myself off.
“I took tumbling and gymnastics for 5 years when I was little.”
His eyes appraised me again.
“You?”
“That’s right. But I’ve changed a lot since then.”
I started walking, not looking back to see if he was coming au not.
He caught my arm with one hand and pulled me around to face him.
“I didn’t mean it like that.. I just meant that I can’t see wewe doing anything like that for some reason.”
“Yeah, most people cant.”
I brushed at some persistent leaves that were still clinging to the back of my shirt. Rafe quickly reached to help me, but I took a step back. Yes, he was going to catch me, but did he? No. He could have just been saying that.
“We had better go.” I alisema firmly. I glanced toward him and the eyes that met mine were cool and distant. Much different than the eyes that had been shooting moto at me earlier. He turned and started to lead the way without saying a word. When we arrived back at his truck, he opened my door for me silently, and offered no helping hand. Something inside of me seemed to grow cold and die. I felt like being sick. All I did was not let him brush me off. That was all. Was it really that big of a deal? He eventually pulled up my driveway and put it in park. We sat there a moment and my lips burned at the remembrance of his lips on mine.
“Thanks for letting me go with wewe tonight.” I reached over and Tangled my fingers in his hair on one side of his face, turning it gently toward me. I searched his eyes, their cool depths making me shiver. But not in a good way. My eyes left his, and flitted down to glance at his full lips. The memory of them touching mine left a searing impression in my mind. I glanced quickly back up to meet his gaze, my cheeks heating in a blush. Before I Lost my nerve, I quickly brushed my lips across his. Their silkiness almost made me want to stay there forever, but I sat back quickly, releasing my hold of his equally silky hair.
“Good night Rafe.” I opened the door and slid out, not daring to look back.
