Disney Princess Apparently, Rapunzel and Flynn share an 8 mwaka age difference. Do wewe think people would have had a problem with this couple if Rapunzel were 17 during the whole movie?

So, yeah, considering how often people make a huge deal about how "Ariel is underage during The Little Mermaid and he's attracted to her/they get married! That makes him a pedo!" I imagine being even one year younger would make people go from approving of Rapunzel and Eugene to going on a pedo hunt against him.
And I had to say, "Yeah... I kind of get that vibe too. It's much better after the end because her hardships and experiences have given her more emotional maturity, and then they get married years later, so they're on more equal footing. But during most of the movie...? I kind of felt that too."
And since 18 is the age where a person is considered an adult in many countries I think people would see a problem with Rapunzel being 17.
But Ariel, Aurora, and Jasmine are 16 and they get married. I guess at that time 16 was considered a normal age to get married so it wasn't much of a problem. While in modern times people expect the Princesses to be modern no matter what time the movie is set in.
What I don't is their logic- "Rapunzel falling for a much older boy may creep people out. Solution: give her our 21st century legal adult age!" Instead of just... not making Flynn in his mid 20s? There's still an iffy age gap and a noticable power imbalance, not just in the ages but how incredibly sheltered and inexperienced Punz is. She's incredibly fortunate Flynn was honorable and not actually bad as his companions. wonder if people would care as much if it were their daughter or sister dating a worldly 26 year old at that age.
And no, Emma, it's canon. You made that up.
I don't see anything wrong with an age gap like this between two consenting adults. It's only eight years, (less actually but I'll get into that later) and I know of a few adults with a 10-12 year age gap who are very happy.
Rapunzel and Eugene are friends first and foremost, and I think that's very important. They are both adults, and despite being younger, Eugene has never shown any predatory intentions towards her at all. He cares about her more than anything. So I think a lot of the complaining is a bit ridiculous?? Since when is a less than a decade age gap between adults such a big deal? This is not pedo behavior at all. Eugene didn't even really start to like her until she was already 18 either so-
Also, canonically, the age gap is actually closer to six years. At least this is canon in the series, that Eugene was 24 during the movie, and 26 during the last season of the show. (He also actually thought he was a year younger than he was as he was an orphan and didn't even know his birthday, but-) So Eugene was around 23-24 in the movie to my understanding, while Rapunzel just turned 18.
I do think people would've been more upset if she was 17 the whole movie, but you really need to take the time period into account as well when confronting something like this.
Anyways, that's just my thoughts on the matter. Feel free to correct me on anything if I'm wrong.
((Also this is by far NOT the biggest Disney age gap like people are saying for some reason. Like someone mentioned earlier, Snow White and Prince Florian have a very large age gap. Snow is 14 and he's 31. 17 years AND she's still a minor. I'd say that's a MUCH bigger deal than this...))
