Belle is very, very smart and witty - but I think Mulan is not only smart and clever, but also thinks very well on her feet. So she wins by a bit :)

I think they are both intelligent, and I think their mental stregnths lie in different areas, what made me pick Mulan was imagining who I thought would have the brains to handle the other's situation. Meaning I think Mulan could be book smart like Belle more easily than I can imagine Belle showing the type of intelligence Mulan does. Belle is clever, but I don't see her being as quick on her feet in battle as Mulan, so I think Mulan's intellligence covers more areas.

They both strike me as being very smart though.

[Edit: the comment this was responding to doesn't appear to be here anymore] I think Mulan's intelligent as she's able to come up with plans that nobody in the entire army could see and she does it so quickly, she has an intelligent and quick view of the world, but Mongoose09 I don't think anyone should hate you for picking Belle. Frankly I have no idea why some people get so annoyed when others call Belle smart, it's a fair opinion, Belle seems smart. And while I agree it takes more than reading to make you smart I think it's fair enough to take all the reading she does into account. I heard someone say she just reads romance books, but it's said in her movie she's read every single book in the store, if she's taking in all of that it would contribute to her intelligence, and since she already seems fairly bright doing all that reading would enhance your brains.

I got into a bit of a Belle ramble there, lol. It's just because I don't get why I hear so much about why people shouldn't think she's smartest and I don't quite get it. I get people disagreeing and thinking she isn't smartest (I mean, look at my pick. I think Mulan's smarter) but I don't get the annoyance when others do. Maybe it's people who think she's just picked through her popularity and that's why it bugs them, I don't know. She seems smart to me :)

I agree, Mermaid-Tail. It is shown in the movie that Belle is very intelligent, and I hear people talk all the time about how she really isn't.

I think she is. She's witty, clever, quick on her feet, logical, and reads a whole freaking lot (and, like you said, not just fairy tales - she read all the books in the bookstore :)

I may change my answer back and forth. I think both Mulan and Belle are really very smart. We have no way to prove whether or not Belle would react the same in Mulan's situation, other than when she thought on her feet when fighting the wolves, but I think she'd do well :)

You can't just say that Belle is smart just because she reads books. Mulan has a brilliant natural intelligence.
