Disney Article: My opinion of Ariel.

Please, no mean comments. This is just MY opinion. Anyways, I'm going to include sequels as well, because I like her in one of the sequels, and I'd like to explain why. In The Little Mermaid, I think she has a fun personality, but that's the only thing I like about her in the first film. She knew Ursula was evil, and she went to her anyway and was told she had THREE days to win her prince over. I thought that was incredibly risky, even though we all knew she'd win him over. It's Disney. I also thought it was selfish to leave her family behind like that, and at the age of 16. I just think she's incredibly selfish and careless in this film. In the little mermaid II, I think her personality improved a little bit. She gets a way overprotective of Melody, and goes a little too far when she has that ukuta built, but we all know she is just concerned for her daughter's safety. However, lying to your child her entire life is NOT cool. She should have told Melody the truth, so she could be aware of the circumstances at hand. I just find Ariel wayyyy too overprotective in this film, very similar to her father. They seem to change the character's personalities in sequels a lot. (Ariel, Simba, Belle, etc.) In Ariel's Beginning, I like Ariel in this film. I would hate it without muziki too and I would probably bend the rules a little as well to be able to hear music. The song "I remember" is really sweet, and she ran away because she couldn't listen to muziki where she was, not because she wanted to win over a guy she hardly knew. I just really like her in this film. Another thing I would like to say is Ariel was one of my childhood favorites, so she will always have a place in my moyo no matter how I feel about her in the present day, if that makes sense. princesslullaby I think what you wrote about Ariel is correct, I think it just depends on what cons about people bother you. Ariel's selfishness and carelessness don't bother me; I always admire gutsy people. Plus I like her more for her personality than her mistakes.

I partly disagree with u, I think her selfishness, carelessness, and her risky character shows that she is a teenager and I think a teenager does those things very often, besides teenagers don't like to be with their family that much, because they feel that their family don't really understands them. I relate to some of these things because I'm a teenager myself, that's why I love Ariel. but it's good to know other people's opinion :)

Carry_me_away Very well spoken! I know you will probably disagree, but in her defense, i thought i should lay this card on the table she didn't want to become a human for the sake of a man she met a couple days ago. Listen to the words of Part of Your World. She wanted it her whole life! she wanted to walk, dance, be in the sun, collect human things all day. it was her life-time dream. i think seeing an attractive man just made it all the more exciting for her. in all honesty, if visiting a spell-maker, even evil, was my only option to achieve something i wanted more than anything in the world, i would take that same opertunity. ariel is brave. stupid, but brave.
