A Happy Life: Chapter 9
[House walks into the clinic. The nurse at the station looks up from the computer screen and smirks at him.]
Nurse: Dr.Cuddy is busy she has Rachel and will only be in for a few minutes.
House: Good. Just enough time to annoy her. Go back to your crossword puzzle Nurse Cranky.
Nurse: Nice to know wewe still as miserable as wewe always were Dr.House.
[House sees Cuddy sitting at the DESK. House's mind travels back to a time when the dawati was new. It was late spring and the semester was coming to a close. House had gone to see Cuddy before the summer. House knocked on Cuddy's apartment door. House remembers how Cuddy answered the door in faded jeans, bare feet, and midrib Michigan shirt. House remembered how her dark curls splay down across her back and hung her face. Cuddy smiled at House and motioned for him to enter. House remembers walking in and seeing the new dawati with packing foam still wrapped around it. House remembers the scent of Cuddy as he walked past her into the room. Cuddy smelled like apples and vanilla. They ordered take out. They sat at the dawati talking about her plans and drinking a bottle of wine. House remembered leaning over to wipe a piece of chakula from her mouth and instead of using a napkin he used his tongue. House remembered how she smiled as soon as his tongue touched the corner of her mouth. Cuddy turned and then they were kissing. House remembers how good her soft skin felt beneath his fingers. House remembers fragments of jeans coming off and shirts ripping and a blanket on the desk. House remembers Cuddy bent over the dawati much like the siku when he gave her the hormone injections she asked him to keep secret. House kept her secret. House knew deep down he would always be guard her secrets. House remembers her moans and his moans mingling,dancing. House remembered how determined she was back then. How he used to look down her shati in Endocrinology when he "thought" she wasn't watching. All of these memories flooded back the siku he called her mom for the desk. The memories flood back to House almost every time he sees the desk. They did the siku he went to Mayfield. That’s what brought him out of his delusion. The thought that Cuddy's didn’t' save him. The thought that he was alone again that Cuddy didn't know he needed her. That Cuddy didn't upendo him again like she did 20 years early in that late spring day. House mind brings him back to the present. House smiles and touches his hand to the corner of his mouth.
[House enters Cuddy's office and sees Rachel in her kiti, kiti cha on the floor. Rachel looks up and smiles at House.]
House: There wewe go again kid giving me your mommy's smile. Now if wewe just point towards the clinic and wail wewe will be just like her.
[Cuddy is still sitting with a glazed look and she is very pale. House limps over to her and sits on the edge of the desk.]
House: Cuddy are wewe okay? wewe look pale. Did wewe go and get the blood work done?
[House places his hand on Cuddy's forehead.]
Cuddy: yes. I think I still have that bug. I'm going to head nyumbani as soon as I feel a little better.
House: I'll take you. My team is busy doing their job. They can call my cell phone when they have any news on my patient. Where's your keys.
[Cuddy nods in agreement. Cuddy hands the keys to House.Cuddy gets up and grabs Rachels kiti, kiti cha and heads to the door. House follows her out the door. House,Cuddy,Rachel leave the building as they are walking out the door 13 sees them leaving from the balcony.]
