For a while I’ve been a shabiki of Little duka of Horrors, specifically the film version made in 1986. I recently bought the soundtrack for the Broadway play it was based on, and have had a good time listening to all the songs. In doing so, I’ve noticed that the onyesha has an interesting element of the plant not only being presented as having a gender, but with the plant being gendered as female kwa the characters before it later asserts a masculine identity.

Little duka of Horrors is my favourite musical of all time. There's just so much I upendo about it, so wewe can imagine how ecstatic I was when the local amateur drama group I grew up performing with announced that it was going to be their inayofuata show.
