The duke is her father. Why else would they show the duke hugging Toph at the end?! Toph doesn't like hugs like that so she must feel something for him to let that happen. Also it was kind of random for them to hug in the last episode and show nothing more. Then she has a kid and no one knows who the father is. I think that hug was an insight into that growing relationship that ended with Lin Bei Fong. I can see why other people consider other characters. Don't flame me, it's my own opinion.
