That's because the lava had carbon and the carbon, mixed with water and some inorganic cells developed into a living organic cell. That's why all organic cells have carbon.
This is why the question is in the comparative religion club, and why "I don't know" is a cop-out, religiously speaking.
Which my idol, Stephen Hawking, says that it impossible to make one to go back in time because of Paradoxes. (Which makes perfect sense)
But we can always guess :D
Based after what Stephen Hawking (he is the MAN!) has said, life needs water, and with the right conditions cells can be created and become life, so I think that's how it would happen with Earth, too.
Now, what exactly causes these conditions to become right, however, is another mystery.

Dude, you're so wrong =_= the atmosphere is always changing. Like it is now with Global Warming and the way it has with the ice age. It's always BEEN changing, and it always will. I have no doubt in my mind that one day it'll change so much that humans will have to re-adapt to their surroundings.
And if everything was formed from this 'soup', everything would have the same chemical composition. I mean, an orange and a tree have different chemicals and elements. How could the same 'soup' have made two completely different things?
B) We are seeing things evolve. Every day, from tiny little changes in bird beaks, to huge species transformations.
C) link.
and D)link. It's not major differences in chemical composition that give us trees and oranges.
