Damon’s POV
I walked into the bar somewhere in the middle of no where. It wasn’t busy, basically what I suspected to be the ‘regulars’. I’d been driving all siku and this was my first stop. I went up to the bar.
“A beer, please, sir,” I alisema to the old man with a white beard. His cold, dark, blue eyes took me in for a few sekunde and then nodded.
“Can wewe tell me where I am?” I asked as he handed me the ice cold drink.
“My, you’ve made it all the way to the mountains of North Carolina. But boy, if I were you, I’d turn around. wewe don’t know what kind of trouble wewe can get into in these parts,” He warned me. My forehead crinkled, trying to understand. I figured it was no use.
After a couple beers, I began talking more. “Women are the trouble for everyone,” I stated, not expecting any type of answer.
“Amen to that,” The bearded man said. “So that’s why you’re here. I ain’t seen wewe before, figured wewe were runnin’ away from something.”
“I don’t know what to do with her – she’s playing me and my best friend,” I couldn’t understand why this was so easy to tell to a stranger.
The man chuckled. “Same thing happened to me before. I just ended up with the girl,” He winked.
“Which were you? I mean, the one she alisema she loved from the beginning au the one she couldn’t leave, no matter how many times wewe told her it was wrong?”
“I was you, boy. She had herself convinced this other guy was her one and only, turns out, she was wrong.”
“How did wewe make her see that she was supposed to be with you?” I had a feeling this man knew what he was talking about. I needed any type of advice right now.
The man laughed hard. “I left her just as wewe have. Went away for a while, and when I came back, she was basically begging me to stay with her.”
“For some reason, I don’t think that’s going to happen,” I argued.
“You just wait, boy. How deep does the relationship with her go?”
This was the part I was not ready to tell. He seemed like an old fashioned man, one that probably wouldn’t agree with what I was going to say. “I was there when she got lonely au when she and Stefan had a fight. I tested my boundaries with her, and she astounded me when she willing let me kuvuka, msalaba those lines, over and over and over. She kept coming back for more, until, well for me, it manifested into something more.”
“You upendo her,” alisema the man. “But she’s hurting you. wewe alisema wewe were best Marafiki with her boyfriend, correct?” I nodded and he continued. “Boy you’re in a mess. I’m betting he has no idea of these feelings wewe two have for each other.”
“Not a clue,” I agreed.
“He’s going to find out eventually, guaranteed. The how and when are the parts that are left to fate. Let me give wewe an important piece of advice, son,” His voice got low and serious. “You’ve got to go back. If wewe wait too long, she’ll really believe wewe left because wewe were tired of her. Go back soon and she’ll go running back into your arms. wewe were smart for leaving – wewe left her time to think and wewe as well.”
“What do I tell her when I go back,” My voice sounded lifeless.
“Tell her what wewe feel – yes, I know, that isn’t part of your reputation, but wewe care enough to let her know.”
“And what if she doesn’t feel the same way?”
“If she’s got wewe this messed up, she feels something.”
“She cares, I know she does – au she wouldn’t keep coming back. But she loves Stefan.”
“She loves wewe too,” He alisema just as another old man walked in the door. “How old a minute, George,” He called to the man as he sat down at the barstool a few down from me.
“You can’t go back to wherever tonight, too many beers. Stay here, I’ve got a room in the back reserved for special visitors like you. Not too shabby, promise.”
I took a deep breath and shrugged. “Why not,” I said.
I followed the man back to my temporary bedding room. It wasn’t bad – just not what I was used to. A few deer heads with at least ten point antlers hung on the walls. The cot was feasible, at least I had something. I was grateful I wasn’t going to have to sleep in my truck.
“Don’t worry about any charges, I’ve got wewe covered.”
“Thank you, sir. For everything,” I called as he left the room and shut the door.
He’d sure aliyopewa me a lot to think about, at the least. As I lay down on the cot, I thought of her. Was she with Stefan, still? Had she gone to try and find me? That’s what I would hope for. I could hope she had found my note, and I knew that when I got home, my hopes would be useless. The house would be empty and just as I left it – the note still intact.
Just as I was falling asleep, my phone buzzed. I picked it up, and had a new voicemail. I decided to check it, hoping it was her, just so I could hear her voice.
“Damon, please, come home. I swear that as soon as wewe get back that I’ll figure out what to do. I need wewe hear – I have got to explain everything to you. It’s not what wewe think, please come nyumbani soon. I need you. I miss you.”
I only slept an saa that night.
Elena’s POV
I don’t know how long I was there. When I woke up, it was already dark again. I didn’t want to leave – my conscious was telling me that I was going to make excuses to stay until he finally showed.
I called his phone one last time, maybe he would pick up – it was worth a shot. He didn’t answer, but I got bold enough to leave him a voicemail. “Damon, please, come home,” I pleaded. I told him that I would make my decision when he got here; I needed him with me when I broke someone’s heart. It would be easier with him back where he needed to be.
After the phone call, I wrapped myself back up in his covers and tried not to think about anything.
