Based on five categories: electoral process and pluralism; civil liberties; the functioning of government; political participation; and political culture. The condition of having free and fair competitive elections, and satisfying related aspects of political freedom, is clearly the basic requirement of all definitions.

I think the system in the Netherlands is pretty damned democratic.

I, like Ajox, live there and I also think it is pretty democratic: it's not perfect and I don't like our current prime minister and the fact that there are 2 christian party's in the government who think we all need an other parent, but I wouldn't know how to do better.
