Tiana was certain that the end was near as Esme made to strike with the spear...and then it was brought up short. Esme froze and then turned, inch kwa inch to see Lestat behind her, gripping the end of the spear. She looked at him, both awed and frightened. Lestat’s expression was calm. His eyes flickered to Tiana.
“You’d better get inside.”
Tiana turned and hurried into the castle, her moyo in her mouth. She knew, she was sure, that she could trust Lestat not to harm her sister, but even so, she pressed against the door to listen.
“You’ve corrupted her, wewe leech!” Esme hissed....
