If somebody asked, "Who picked _" They could just honestly be asking it JUST so they can know who picked it and why they picked it, either to see their thought process or they were wondering who's views it were. On the Robin Williams poll a while back I had no problem when people asked who picked, "Happy" he was gone, because we got an answer, before that nobody commented. If someone asks, "How can someone like this" I can translate it too, "My opinions are better than yours" or that the person was just curious why someone likes/dislikes something. I don't mind explaining why I chose certain things and hearing the other side explain.
