The supercilious Belle, the ruthless Merida, the judgmental Tiana, and the know-it-all Elsa are way more flawed than Ariel is --- and yet those girls are treated with much more leniency and respect than Ariel gets. Ariel gets hatred for every mistake she makes, while the others get "rounds of excuses" for making theirs. Belle and the other favorites don't get as much hatred.
