I really hope not, but I'm not sure. Maybe he wants to kill all the vampires eventually and kill himself too in the end to make it undone that he brought the vampire species into existence. After all he didn't know what the vampires would be like when he made that decision and it would fit with the fact that he doesn't feed on "living things". But if that's not his plan I don't think he's got a reason to kill Elijah.
