Chapter Two
"Chameleons"

Maya Herrera - Kanyakumari, India

"Peter!?" Maya exclaimed, disbelief and dissapointment mingling sickeningly in the pit of her stomach. For a moment she'd thought...

"Sorry Maya, wewe weren't supposed to see me here" Peter Petrelli told her, getting to his feet.

Maya simply turned away, ashamed.

"I didn't mean to scare you, it's just, I thought I should pay my respects and..." Peter trailed off.

"It's fine, it's good to see wewe again." she told him half-heartedly. She turned to face him, but he had gone.

Returning to the beach, Maya wiped the dirt off the long shite sari she was wearing, trying not to look flustered. It had been a long day.

"Excuse me?" a pretty indian woman addressed Maya, approaching with a pleasant smile.

"Yes?"

"You were a close friend of Mohinder's, yes?" she asked.

"That's right, we met in New York." she told her, wondering why she was so interested.

"Mira, Mira Shenoy" she said, extended a hand to Maya "Me and Mohinder... we, how do wewe say?.. Had history."

"I see, I'm very sorry." Maya alisema sincerely, but whilst feeling a pang of annoyance (or was it, perhaps jealousy?).

"If wewe would like, we will be going for a drink later, if wewe can come I'd upendo for wewe to jiunge us." she said, indicating a group of what Maya assumed were Mohinder's old chuo kikuu, chuo kikuu cha peers.

Maya smiled, pausing for time, the last thing she wanted was to be drilled for information kwa Mohinder's ex. "I'd be delighted" she told her.

"Maya? Maya Herrera?" came a sudden voice from the crowd behind her.

Turning around she found herself face to face with Peter again.

"Oh, hi" she alisema "What happened? Your clothes are... didn't wewe have a scar a dakika ago?"

Sylar blinked slightly, looking around the room he was sitting in, before looking at Dorian again. "....Dorian?" he alisema slowly. His dark eyes studied hers. "Is it really you?"

Dorian nodded. "Yes, Gabriel." she said. "It is."

Sylar stood slowly, looking at his hands. He remembered everything. "...they trapped me." he alisema in a cold voice, his eyes cold as well. "in essence, they killed me. And felt nothing for doing it." he looked up at her.

"Can wewe blame them?" she asked. "All that wewe have done to hurt them, and wewe expect to get off scott-free?"

Sylar blinked. "Why free me then?" he asked....

Nathan swallowed, and he looked at the woman. "I know you... don't I?" he asked slowly, his mind still reeling.

She nodded. "Yes, and no." she said. "Gabriel Gray... Sylar, he knows me."

"I could feel it.." he said. "When I saw wewe in the restaurant... I knew that I knew you... but couldn't explain how..." he paused. "What's wewe name?"

"Dorian." she said. "Dorian Gray."

Nathan nodded.

"So..." alisema Dorian. "What are wewe going to do now..?" she asked. "Continue living what wewe know for sure to be a lie? Confined inside of the body of the person that killed you...when wewe no longer belong here... or...

"Nathan Petrelli doesn't." she alisema simply.

"I'M NATHAN PETRELLI!" he alisema angrily, stepping forward.

"No you're not." she said. She paused, and went around the desk, putting something into the computer. "There's something wewe need to see." she alisema slowly.

Nathan slowly went to stand beside her. "What is it?" he asked.

The woman opened the hard drive. It was a video file. "I got this, with a little help from Rebel." she said. "He doesn't know what's on it... he was able to save it, before the camera's were erased, and removed."

Nathan nodded slowly, as she pressed play. His eyes widened as he...

He paused for a moment, before closing the door with a snap. "Can I help you?" he asked.

The individual turned, and Nathan felt his eyes widen. It was the woman he had seen in the restaraunt. "You..." he alisema slowly.

"Me." she said, in a simple tone. "You were a difficult person to fully track down, Gabriel." she said. "Nifty trick, that. What Parkman did."

Nathan blinked, his brow furrowed. "Wh-what did wewe just call me? Gabriel? I think you've made a mistake."

"No mistake." alisema the woman, sitting on his desk, tossing him the clokc that had been on it.

Nathan caught the clock, and looked at the...

The meal went kwa like any family meal does. Which was very much a first for a long while in the Petrelli family.

A smile of laughter on his face, Nathan looked at his watch, and the smile died slightly. "I got to get going." he said, looking at them. "Things to do."

Angela nodded. "Very well. I'll see wewe on Saturday, of course." she said, making the swali into a statement.

Nathan smiled and laughed as he stood, and kissed his mother on the cheek. "Love wewe Ma." he said. He turned, and clapped his brother on the shoulder. "See wewe later Pete." he said.

"See you, Nathan."

Nathan went outside,...

"Nathan?" alisema Peter, shaking his shoulder slightly. "You alright?"

Nathan shook his head, tearing his eyes off of the woman's. "Y-yeah, Pete. I'm alright."

Peter glanced to where his brother was looking, but there was only an empty table. "What were wewe looking at?" he asked.

Nathan looked at the meza, jedwali as well, seeing it was empty. His eyes widened slightly. "There...there was a woman, sitting there."

"A woman?" asked Peter. "..She's not there anymore.."

"I can see that, Pete, thank you." alisema Nathan sarcastically.

He looked up as there was a knock on his door. "Hey Pete." he said, giving his brother a small smile. "What's up?"

"Mom sent me to come and get you." alisema Peter, smiling as he brushed his hair aside. "She wants to have lunch."

Nathan nodded, taking his kanzu, koti off of his chair and putting it on. "Let's go then." he said, clapping his brother on the shoulder.

Peter smiled, laughing slightly as the two of them went downstairs to jiunge Angela for lunch.

"I'm so happy to see my boys getting along at last." alisema Angela smiling as they got into the cab with her. "It's about time."

"Yeah, yeah, Ma." alisema Nathan,...

Nathan Petrelli stood in his office, looking out of the large picture window, his eyes scanning the city-scape.

He'd had the nightmare again. But it seemed real. So vivid, it was as if he had really done all of the things he dreamed. But, that was impossible.

Because he was dreaming of what Sylar had done.

It has nearly two and a half months since Sylar had died. He ran his hand through his short hair as he sighed, turning around.

The Company was up and running again. Quite smoothly, too. Which he was glad for. He and Peter were seeing each other a few times a week, the same for Claire. Everything...

"I'm right here" Joseph assured the elderly woman as he leant closer over her hospital kitanda to hold her hand.

"You're a good boy" she told him "and a good son.". Her eyes slowly closed and her grip relaxed slightly, giving Joseph a moment's panic before she suddenly sat up and sneezed.

"Bless you" he said, with a half laugh and a relieved smile. His mother looked up and smiled at him as if the mere presence of having her only son with her made her final days worthwhile. She lifted...

Sylar raised his eyebrows slightly as Noah left the room, closing the door with a soft snap.

Moments later, the door slowly started to open again.

Internally, Sylar braced himself. He didn't know who this "Enforcer" was, but he was sure he didn't want to find out. After a few moments, he heard the door open, and several footsteps. Several moments later, the door closed again with a snap.

He looked up at the Enforcer. It was a fairly tall woman, wearing black pants and a black tube top. She was wearing silver hoop earrings. Her black curly hair was cropped very shirt, save for a thick lock of 'bangs' on the right side of her face. There was a scar over her lip, and a long one that stretched across most of her forehead. There was also one over one of her eyes.

One of her piercing, almost silver, light gray eyes.

It was Dorian.
"I really hate today..." alisema Sylar as he opened his eyes again. This time, he found himself in an empty room, strapped to a chair, and hooked up to an IV.

"We were able to produce a solution that has the same effect as my old friend, the Haitian." came Noah's voice. "Rather handy. Especially for someone like you."

Sylar struggled slightly against his bonds, trying anything. But, Noah was right. His abilities were indeed, not working.

Noah continued. "You already knew that, of course, but since wewe seem to be suffering from 'amnesia', I thought I'd play along."

"What am I doing in here?" Asked...

But that was impossible. Primatech had burned to the ground. He would know. He had been inside of it when it had happened.

And yet, that was where he sat. He remembered it all. the stale feeling of the air. The smells. How it all...felt. How was this possible?

After several moments, he heard the familiar sounds of the door into Level 5 opening. The lights clicked on.

"Good afternoon, Sylar." alisema Noah Bennett.

"Noah..." alisema Sylar slowly. "You son of a-" his last word was cut off, for when he slammed his hands on the glass, he received an electric shock.

"Forget about the upgrade?" asked Noah coldly....

It only took a few moments for Sylar to leave the small cafe, and follow Jake out, and down the road. After several hundred feet, she turned into a narrow alley, and Sylar followed her still.

"Jake Taylor." he alisema in his most chilling voice.

A braver man would have cowered at that sound, a chill running up their spine. But Jake merely turned, and her eyes pierced Sylar's. "Hello, Sylar." she alisema calmly.

"You know me?" he asked, amused.

"Aye, I do indeed." she responded. "And wewe will not get what wewe came for."

Sylar was about to respond, when he suddenly found himself unable to speak. his dark...

Sylar closed his eyes...wondering where he could be. He opened them, and looked across the street. A cafe... yes... he would look there first... He walked across the mitaani, mtaa and entered the cafe.

It was mildly empty. Only a few customers. An older man, who was balding. No, that couldn't be Jake. Far too old. An middle aged woman and her friend. A small group of young men, who were joking and laughing.

And a young woman, no older than twenty-five, with spiked blond hair, that had shots of color...

"And what, exactly, do I not understand?" asked Noah, slightly annoyed.

Dorian looked at him. "Did they even tell wewe what Jake's ability is?" she asked him.

Noah looked at her. "Of course." Dorian continued looking at him, obviously waiting for him to say it. "The ability is 'Insight Entrapment'." he alisema at last.

Dorian nodded. "That's the one." she said. "And have wewe any idea how it works?" she asked. "What Jake can do?"

"I'm well aware."

"So you've already said." alisema Dorian. "And yet, wewe have come alone. Funny. I'd think Nathan would provide wewe with some form of protection."

"What are wewe talking about?" asked Noah after a moment.

Dorian rolled her eyes. "And here I thought wewe were smart." she alisema sarcastically. "Logan Jacobs. that's who Claude was protecting."

"How did wewe know?" asked Claude, looking at her.

"Put it together." alisema Dorian.

Sylar still remained silent. The wheels in his head turning slowly... the power....he wanted, no, needed that power.....

"Logan Jacobs?" alisema Noah. "As in-"

"As in Peter Petrelli's real mother. Yes." cut Dorian. "Who else would he risk everything to protect? Even if they weren't together."

Noah just stared at her, Lost for words....

Noah blinked. "She collapsed a building." he said, his eyes still on Dorian's. "Killing 237 people, instantly."

Noah slowly stood, staring at her in disbelief. "You're not really here." he stated.

Dorian nodded. "Right wewe are. Better salama than sorry."

"How did wewe know where to come, then?"

"Had a little help from Molly."

"You have Molly?! We've been looking for her."

"She's not the only one "I" have." alisema Dorian calmly. "Matt Parkman, Daphne Millbrook, Peter Petrelli,...

"Rebirth"

Mohinder Suresh and Maya Herrera - Ferry

Mohinder quickly picked up Maya's stretcher, he hesitated for a moment. Cole would surely drown without his help. But if he left Maya on her own...

A blinding flash suddenly erupted in front of Mohinder's eyes and a figure materialised before him, grabbing his arm and one of Maya's before the blinding light came once again.

Stumbling, Mohinder grabbed the arm now holding his and swung the person off their feet, slamming them hard against the deck floor, only... it wasn't the deck floor any more. Mohinder briefly met eyes with a determined-looking...
