Come on, people- she's sweet, charming and good. We all feel sorry for Eponine, but Marius loves Cosette with all heart, full stop.

Since when is love subject to a poll? Do we really think Marius, if he saw this poll, would top and rethink his choice? xD
I do feel sorry for Eponine but that's life, gal, it's not supposed to be fair.

If Marius spent more time with Eponine when they were both younger then he'd see that just because she can't dress up like Cosette, that she was a lovely, caring person who really loved him and didn't have a chance with him because she was bought up in hell.

Its how the book is. Eponine isn't like she is in the musical.

I haven't read the book, but I do have 3 movie versions, and in one of those when Cosette is took in by Eponine's family Eponine is really really nasty to her, so that obviously goes against your view musicalfreak if you look at it that way..
In the musical I do feel sorry for her, but I still think Marius and Cosette should be together

this is a very hard question because you feel very sorry for Eponine and you want them to be together because of that. But Marius truly loves Cosette

Marius and Éponine wouldn't have worked. They were from two different social classes, completely different in character and barely similar at all, and it's hinted Éponine's more in love with the idea of being in love rather than purely in love with Marius. She was a little insane, after all.

Cosette, it was destiny. Any way Marius didn't have those types of feelings for Eponine.

He thought of her as a friend. In fact, the first time he spoke to her in the book, her response was 'you know my name?" Just because you feel back for her doesn't mean she would ever get Marius.

If Marius gave Eponine the time of day then he might love her it's just Cosette's beauty that blew him away he even said that at the ABC Cafe he didn't know who the hell she was so yes he should be left to live his life alone or maybe find some other chic.

To the person who said that Eponine is in love with being in love, go back and read the book. She loves Marius because she Loves Marius. It is obvious. It is hinted at that Montparnasse has feelings for her in the book, but she's not intrigued with him in the least. She loves Marius for who he is and sacrifices everything she has to ensure his happiness. If she were just in love with being in love, she'd be gawking over whatever man is present to her. She has a genuine heart, and I'm always left baffled as to why he doesn't love her. It even says in the books that she's extremely pretty its just that poverty has striped her of nearly all her youth. Marius falls in love with Cosette out of nothing more than beauty. This fact shows that Marius cannot feel any kind of love for genuine beauty such as kindness and sacrifice. He's in love with appearances. In the book, he doesn't give Cosette the time of day until she matures in looks and looks like a stunning woman. Until then, Marius could have cared less. if there's anyone that's in love with being in love its Cosette. She stares and stares at Marius for months, but all of a sudden he disappears, so what does she do? She stares at other men specifically Marius's cousin in the hopes he'll fill Marius's shoes. Only if Marius's stay is permanent does she love him. Had she gone to London with Valjean, she would have forgotten him quickly and began to stare at some other man just as she had in Paris in the hopes he's taken with her. She is so dependant on people, and I think both Marius and Cosette seriously needed to grow up. They both acted so stupid to the point in the book it drove me crazy whereas Eponine was always trying to make sure Marius and only Marius was happy. She truly loved him especially since he was the only man she met who acted with kindness towards her and didn't physically beat her. She's the same as she is in the musical people just don't notice it because she is so overlooked. She's actually a very significant character with many different levels in the book. I'm tired of people calling her 'the crazy stalker'. She was sad not crazy and basically gave up on the world as a whole. It was Marius's kindness that opened her eyes to the goodness and love that exsists in the world and due to that kindness he showed she fell in love with him which is why she is so sad when she sees he's smitten with Cosette because he is the only kindness that exsists in her world, and to know that she will lose that light that was never hers devastates her. Clearly, some people need to read between the lines when reading the book....

If he ended up with Eponine it would have done nothing for her character - she woul have become completely dependent on him and wouldn't be able to do anything for herself. Besides, Marius only ever saw Eponine as a friend, so it wouldn't be fair on either of them if they got together. Which is probably the reason why I ship Eponine/Combeferre.

I think Marius should be with Cosette. I mean I feel sorry for Eponine she has had a horrible life and all but she should be happy being friends with Marius. I mean Marius picked Cosette. He fell in love with her! He doesn't look at Eponine the same way he looks at Eponine. Eponine and Marius have been friends forever but Marius never fell in love with her. And for the people who said if Marius had spent more time with Eponine they would have fallen in love. Marius and Eponine have been friends since they were kids. They had 10 years to get to know each other and they were still just friends.

I was wondering how long it would take before someone ranted about my comment. Hmm! No point in arguing now since its so old, I am going to leave you, Ndeb, with saying that Éponine is my favorite character. I love her because she is not perfect, and her love is far from pure. Éponine is no saint, and I hope you realize that's what makes her character so great. Anyways... Back to putting this account into a sleep for forever.

I think Eponine should be with Marius, but they should like Cosette as a friend. That would be what I would do, but I think it is right that Marius is with Cosette, only Eponine and him in a dream world. I like Eponine the most but not a Cosette hater.
