A Strange Way to Fall in upendo Chapter Seventeen
I was going to stay at the beach, pwani a little longer. I wanted to sit out here and think in peacefulness of the ocean. It was nice to be out here kwa myself. But, I had been kwa myself for years. Well, except for Mark being kwa my side during the years in the army. I had no idea what to do now that I was back in the states. The army was my career and pretty much the only thing I knew.
"Hey Kyle," Lola said, "whatcha still doing here?"
"Just thinking," I said.
"They must be pretty important! wewe have been sitting here for a while," she stated, "trying to think if wewe should put a ring on your girlfriend's finger?"
Lola started laughing after what she just said.
"No, not that! I have been way too busy to date," I alisema laughing a little.
"Ahh, I would have thought wewe would had settled down kwa now," she said, "with a couple of kids and in some nice neighborhood!"
"Why would wewe think," I asked.
"You just seemed like the type of guy that would have a family kwa now," she shrugged.
"Me," I asked laughing, "I have been over seas numerous amount of times! I could not leave a family behind to go fight that many times."
"Oh okay," she alisema as she sat down beside me.
"Just oh okay," I asked, "that is all?"
"Yep," Lola alisema as she stared out at sea, "have wewe ever gotten hurt over there?"
"Once," I said, "but nothing serious!"
"Oh neat," she alisema as I looked her oddly, "well, not neat! But, that is good wewe did not get hurt too bad!"
"Yeah, I like my job; I think I will keep it," I alisema smiling, "but what are wewe still doing here?"
"I was taking a walk on the beach," she said, "I upendo this place. It's like I belong here!"
"That's good that wewe have something wewe love," I said.
"Why are wewe still in your uniform," she asked curiously.
"I have not gotten a chance to change out of it," I said, "I wear this uniform everyday that I forget to change out of it when I come back home!"
"That is funny," she alisema laughing.
"So, what have wewe been up to all these years I have been gone," I asked.
"Eh, wewe know most of it," she shrugged, "basically fighting for my life and putting those people in jail."
"I am sorry," I said, "I wish I could have been here and that would have never happened!"
"It would have happened if wewe were here," she stated, "it's whatever now! Do wewe ever have nightmares about your job au whatever wewe call it?"
"Sometimes, but not very much," I stated, "do wewe every have nightmares about everything that has happened to you?"
"Honestly," she alisema as she looked over me, "every night. I try and stay up as long as possible and wake up as early as possible. I relive everything that has every happened to me every night."
"Does it still scare you," I asked curiously.
"Every time, wewe think after living it once and dreaming about for mwaka au so, wewe would know what is coming. But, I don't," she said.
"Have wewe told Horatio," I asked.
"No, I have not," Lola said, "and I am not going too! Him and everyone else at his department have tried to get me to talk to anyone about everything. But, I do not need someone telling me how to get rid of nightmares. Besides, it probably would not help at all!"
"Oh," I said.
"Don't strain your voice too much," she alisema laughing.
"Sorry, I just keep thinking what if," I stated.
"It is the past," she alisema as she paused, "it is a, whatever?"
"Okay," I alisema with a bit of laughter.
"Are wewe going back over seas au are wewe here for good," Lola asked.
"I am not sure," I stated, "I think I need to do a couple of zaidi tours. The army is all I know! I know Mark will try and get a job on base in the states. On the count that he is going to get married soon!"
"Is he your age," she asked curiously.
"Yep," I said.
"Wow, to get married at your age au a mwaka au two older than me," she alisema stunned.
"I guess, I see what Mark has and all I can think about it having that too," I said, "I want it so bad!"
"Really," she alisema as it came out in a laugh.
"What," I asked confused, "is it bad to say I want a girlfriend? I want someone to upendo me?"
"No, not at all," Lola said, "I have been trying way to hard to get people to upendo me! And look what has all happened to me!"
"Everything that has happened to wewe is not because wewe are looking for someone to love," I stated, "You Lola, have the worst luck I have ever seen!"
"You're telling me," she alisema laughing.
"Lola," someone called out.
"Seriously," she groaned, "I guess Horatio has sent out a crew to come find me!"
"Why would he do that," I asked confused.
"Because, he thinks I am suicidal! And I promise I am not," Lola said, "I have good job coming my way! I have been adopted kwa someone who should have adopted me a long time ago! But better late then never!"
"Right," I alisema as someone interrupted me.
"Lola," a man asked.
"Hello Robert," she alisema with dread in her voice, "I am okay! No need to panic, wewe know!"
"Well, Horatio is worried about you," Robert said, "and wewe should not be talking to strangers!"
"Robert, this is Kyle! He is not a stranger," I said, "now onyesha some respect to him!"
"Sorry, I am Robert," the man said, "thank wewe for all wewe do!"
"It is alright," I said, "no problem!"
"Come on Lola, Horatio wants wewe home!"
"Fine," she grumbled, "bye Kyle! See wewe later!"
