E! News was among the first to speak to Nyong\'o after her casting was announced back in June while on the red carpet at the CFDA Awards in New York City. "I was cast two weeks ago," she said, denying reports that she was hired in the spring. "I\'m glad it\'s out."

She initially announced her casting via Instagram, writing to fans, "I can finally say it out loud and proud: I\'m going to a galaxy far, far away!"
