The story takes place in feudal Japan and follows the adventures of Jubei Kibagami, a mercenary ninja who is aliyopewa a duty to guard the Dragon Stone and to protect the Priestess of Light (Shigure) from the Hiruko Clan and the Kimon Shu. Five years before the start of the film, the fictious Yamashiro clan's chief retainers (vassal lords) dig dhahabu out of a secret mine behind their lord's back. The lord of the Yamashiro clan wants to have the dhahabu for himself, but his forces are not strong enough, so he cannot act alone. He also cannot go to the government first, because they would take the dhahabu if they knew about the mine.
