Who is Dr nyangumi in the fairytale world?

Easy: James Wale directed Frankenstein, Dr Wale is Dr Frankenstein.

My updated post: On several sites, cynthiapren, makes a strong case for Dr. nyangumi being the Hulk, whose character was inspired kwa Dr. Frankenstein, Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde. I think she might be correct.

My original post:
I believe Dr. nyangumi is Dr. Frankenstein (not the monster but the doctor who creates the monster) - creator of the Frankenstein’s Monster and the Bride of Frankenstein and here is why.

Clues: I think the best clue is in the Singlebrooke Dating Service video where Dr. nyangumi describes himself as good at MAKING Marafiki (emphasis mine).

What does he want in a woman? He doesn't want stuck-ups au prudes, every lady will get a chajio, chakula cha jioni at Granny's, a single carnation (def. the color of human flesh - root word flesh), a visit to my condo where I will play the very best of Sting (Sting appeared as "Charles" Frankenstein in 1985's The Bride), and the sparks will fly (electricity that brings creatures to life).

Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein were directed kwa James WHALE.

Dr. nyangumi wears white when he is a doctor, black when he was with Mary Margaret (checking out Ruby) and when he was trying to pick up Ruby under the streetlight. (interesting parallel between Sting's song, Moon over bourbon mitaani, mtaa and the scene where Dr. nyangumi tries to pick up Ruby - although Sting's song is about a vampire)

NEW CLUES:

Classic “God complex” (classic could refer to classic literature)(Dr. Frankenstein played God and brought things to life).

Marvel Comic Book: The Monster of Frankenstein - Mary Margaret's flowers that she got from Dr. nyangumi are wrapped similar to Frankenstein's monster....purple with yellow ribbon/cord. Dr. nyangumi looks like Marvel's Dr. Frankenstein, and Frankenstein's monster bears an uncanny resemblance to the ogre.

This is probably crazy, and maybe way wrong, but the modern siku names seem to hint at their fairy tale identities. The only "Whale" I know of right away is Monstro from Pinocchio. I mean, the psychiatrist can be a former cricket, why not a former nyangumi for a doctor?

The actress who plays Ruby/Red Riding kofia alisema there hasn't been a Big Bad mbwa mwitu yet so seems he can't be him.

His last name is nyangumi which leaves Monstro as an option but that somehow seems to obvious (but still possible of course).

Apparently we'll meet the Beast at some point and he's someone we know already, so he could very well be the Beast.

I'm not to sure but for now I'm going with Beast.

Honestly I thought the Big Bad mbwa mwitu automatically cause of that one episode where he checks Ruby out in the diner but I dunno..

My guess is Pinnochio. He gets swallowed kwa a nyangumi and he's a know liar. We know who Gepetto is and in the fairy tale world he had a son but where is he now? I think part of the curse is that he doesn't know who his son is since that would destroy his happiness.

I joined, just so I could add my idea. I think that Dr. nyangumi might be 'the boy who cried wolf'. I think that would explain why he is so good at lying and a bit of a snitch (also why he would work with Regina) and it could explain why he would have connection with Ruby (a wolf) and even Snow. nyangumi could be taken to be 'wail' as in a mbwa mwitu cry au 'wailing on people' which is slang for tricking and gossiping. Don't know if as punishment for tricking the villagers he was punished in some way (turned into monstro?)

I figure the Beast since we are supposed to know who the beast is already and Dr. nyangumi is one of the only people that we do not who his fairy tale character was.

I don't have a definitive answer, but what about Gaston? Dr. nyangumi is full of himself (like Gaston) and since he seems to be in Regina's pocket we can say he leans zaidi toward the dark side (like Gaston). And he's one of the good looking characters.

But I think the Monstro guess has the most logic to it since is name is "Whale".

Ok first off, we have yet to find evidence that the curse can transform someone human unless they were human to begin with. Second, with a name like "Whale" he's obviously somehow connected to Monstro. My theory is that Monstro hasn't always been a nyangumi and, much like the Mirror, was once human and was transformed into a nyangumi as punishment.

He is definitely the mbwa mwitu but which one ? Theirs the 3 little pigs one (Unlikely) but zaidi so the Red Riding kofia one , because he keeps trying to hit on Ruby and try to tarehe her, also hes a doctor and works with close blood around,,, so he's most likely the mbwa mwitu :)

So, Red is the mbwa mwitu herself, Rumpelstiltskin is the Beast.
So, there is the man turned nyangumi kwa curse theory left, right? But he doesn't have any special connection to either Gepetto, August au anyone from that story, does he?
The only persons he has a connection to are Regina, Mary-Margaret and David. And since he is constantly pushing himself in between Mary-Margaret and David, kwa calling Regina when David wakes up and kwa hitting on MM, and so forth, I think that he must be part of their story. And since we don't know how they got their kingdom back, who knows where he might have come in.
Or, as another sea-related story, he might be part of The Little Mermaid story. Maybe he is Sebastian... just kidding. au Eric, since he is into younger girls, Arielle having been just 16. Just kidding again.

Maybe he's Peter pan, idk, but u know how Peter Pan never grew up, well a doctor is like the most grown up job, so I figure maybe, or, my other theory is that he's hook, because in FTL hook had a medical disadvantage, so in this world he can cure medical problems.

I know that its technically not a fairy-tale and thus probably not according to canon. But I was thinking, since all the characters is named something similar and reminiscent of their fairytale counterparts. Could it be that Dr nyangumi is the Storybrook version of the Fisher king from the Arthurian Legends.That whole part is laden with references to healing and fish...

I have not seen anyone say this one yet... But if the Evil Queen can keep Malificent a dragon then why can't she turn a nyangumi into a human?/

Another idea I had is because he is Long John Silver. Because he believably plays both sides and seems to have a silver tongue.

Midas is literary not fairy tale so he very well be as well.

I think he is the nyangumi that almost swallowed Pinoccio and Gepetto.

So I may be completely pushing the boundaries here, but they’ve cast that guy from Lost as “The Giant” and hinted that there will be a Jack to go with him (aka Jack and the Beanstalk). Well they’ve basically revealed the actors playing all the new parts (Mulan, Sleeping Beauty, Prince Philip, etc.) EXCEPT JACK! So maybe Jack is Dr. Whale??? His family was poor in fairytale land so maybe Regina made a deal with him (similar to how she did with Mad Hatter) and now he works as a doctor and doctors make a lot of money.

The name Jabbar (bad guy from Aladin) means gigantic, kind of like a nyangumi maybe?

I'm going with the boy who could wish for anything from "The Pink" kwa the Brothers Grimm. The boy created his eventual wife ("make my friends"), could do anything he wanted to (explaining Whale's arrogance), and turned his lady into a carnation --the single most beautiful carnation ever-- when introducing her to his father. He also created his own home-- Dr. Whale's condo?

While I agree that the name "Dr. Whale" most obviously points to Monstro (the nyangumi from Pinocchio), I'm thinking he is Captain Hook, which still relates to the nautical theme. Producers have hinted that his identity will be revealed in Season 2, and the previews are playing up the captain everyone loved to hate. However, aliyopewa the show's tendency to weave together multiple tales, is it not possible he could be both...?

Well...we know that he's involved in the 'Rumple/Cora/Regina/Whale' story....I've no idea who he COULD be though...

This is one of the things that always keeps me up at night, but for some reason I think he is Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk. They have started filming that episode already, but have alisema nothing about casting Jack. Also close to when they started filming it David Anders tweeted that we were never going to guess his FTL identity. Call me crazy, but I think he is Jack.

Well I broke down Dr. Whale's name this way... Doctor could mean someone Knowledgeable... Important... High Ranking au of title. And Whale... huge sea creature (maybe meaning his role in the sea is huge?)

There are many Kings in many Kingdoms... Prince Charming's dad is King, Belle's Dad is King, Sean's Dad, Snow White's Dad that died... etc etc

Why wouldn't there be a King of the Sea? Like King Triton au Greek god Poseidon?

And again nyangumi can be a reference to how huge an importance he has in the sea and Dr can maybe be a title hinting that he's King of the Sea?

I think he is one of the charming prince(he is too charmy became some monster). We met James(husband of snow white) and Thomas(h. of Cinderella). Dr. nyangumi is the third prince who is fall in upendo with Red(Ruby),some point he has to save her but he is late, because the mbwa mwitu kills her order of the Queen, but he can save her if he becomes a hunter. Maybe that's why he acts upon to Regina.

I submit that Dr. nyangumi might be Hades (from Hercules). I'm only about 10% confident of this. Archie mentions a "god complex" so this leads me to think of Disney's Hercules (if OUAT is pulling mainly from Disney-themed creations). In medieval bestiaries, whales are thought to symbolize Satan.

However, "sparks will fly" and his penchant for flirtatious women doesn't seem to support this idea. He might be pan (Fantasia?), but where does "Whale" come in?

It does seem that most characters' supposedly real-life names have something to do with their story counter-parts, generally in one of three categories: direct translation (MM. Blanchard [white], Regina [queen], Ruby [red]); simple association (Mr. dhahabu [R.'s occupation], Ashley [Ashenputtle/Ashpet/Cinders, etc.]); au indirect association/reference/allusion (Jefferson [Jefferson Airplane - "Wonderland"], David [shepherd and later King David, eventual father of a Savior]).

nyangumi doesn't seem to fit the first two, unless "whale" really is the intended message, in which case Monstruo seems the most obvious choice.

The Dr. Frankenstein theory seems plausible but unlikely to me. ELO has a song called "Whale," which might account for the "sparks will fly" quip, but there doesn't seem to be anything particularly fairy-taleish about ELO.

I keep coming back to "god complex"; that seems like a strong clue. And with tonight's references (i.e., "you're not my prince," "we've listened to wewe long enough"), I'm even zaidi intrigued.

I have a couple of other theories that are probably even zaidi off. Here are some of them:

A lot of the "clues" of Dr. Whale's identity (beside his name, unless this is a pun on Wales the country) share parallels with the Disney film Thomasina. Not Quite Human (Dr. Jonas) is a possibility, though equally remote. Maybe an iconic American folk hero?

I think that Dr. nyangumi is Perseus....hence the god-like complex and in moby dick Perseus is referred to as the first whaleman.

I think Dr. nyangumi is Peter Pan. The producers alisema that after we know who he is, we'll be able to go back to the old episodes and we'll see clues to his identity. When I rewatched "Snow Falls" , I noticed something about the way Dr. nyangumi stands. He always has his hands on his hips au in his pockets. There's even a part where he's standing in the background with his hands on his hips and his legs apart just like Peter always stands. Also he knows David is a prince but David doesn't recognize him. Peter Pan knows about Fairy Tale characters because he goes to Wendy's window to listen to the stories so he can go back to Neverland and tell them to the Lost Boys. In "We Are Both" nyangumi asks about dating fairies. Maybe Tinkerbell?and finally didn't David Anders tweet one time that we'd "never" guess his identity.

This tells me that he is either King Triton au Hercules. I really think that it's Hercules, but i don't know. I guess we will just half to wait and find out

Dr. nyangumi can't be the Big Bad mbwa mwitu because the backstory for Red & Granny revealed that the mbwa mwitu is actually Red when she doesn't have her vazi, pazia to keep her from changing. He has to be King Triton au Monstro.

Everyone's theories are great; but, I can't seem to shake away from him being the Big Bad mbwa mwitu for the following reasons:
1. He's attracted to Red - A fellow wolf
2. He's a flirt - Like the mbwa mwitu character
3. He pounds on the door of Regina's house in Season 2, Episode 1 - Like he pounds on the 3 little pigs doors
4. His Dr. nyangumi could Be Dr. WAIL - Meaning Howl like Mbwa mwitu loups do
5. He has a sly way about him - Like a wolf

Everyone has been throwing characters out like Monstro (too obvious), other unimportant characters. I would think the writers would throw in maarufu story characters that we ALL KNOW to make it zaidi interesting. This is my theory, so we will see.

Dr nyangumi is the doctor who creates Frankenstein. I'm currently watching the episode right now where he brings back Regina's fiancée from the dead. In a flashback Dr. nyangumi asks the fairy tale Regina to call him "Doctor". Also, when her fiancée is brought back he becomes a monster (similar to Frankenstein)

James nyangumi was the name of the director of the classic Frankenstein movie with Boris Karloff. Dr.Whale is Dr.Frankenstein :) and Bae is most likely Peter Pan :))

He is obviously Dr. Frankenstein. Rumpelstiltskin refers to him as "making a monster, and he responds that it isn't a monster. Also, this is from the Wiki page for Once Upon a Time, "The name of his Storybrooke counterpart refers to movie director James Whale, who directed the sinema Frankenstein (1931) and Bride of Frankenstein (1935)." And, "Unlike most known characters in Storybrooke, Dr. nyangumi is not a native to the Enchanted Forest, but to another realm. Frankenstein/Whale's presence confirms that Regina was able to bring people from other magical realms to Storybrooke through her curse." He is not Monstro au anyone like that.

in episode 4 of season 2 it is revealed that he is a doctor in his world as well as storybrooke, and sure my first idea was Dr Frankenstein, but purely because the other characters written kwa the brothers grimm i assumed him to be Doctor Know-all, but there is also the chance of him being Doctor jekyl and mr hyde, as well as, there is a high possibility im both wrong and i probably left out an obvious possible identity but just an idea to throw out before i finish the episde
