It was called 'Outlander' Season 3: Everything to Know (So Far) | Hollywood Reporter
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
To help make the "Droughtlander" go by faster, THR rounded up all the news, castings and first look photos from season three in one handy place.
, began in early September. The 13-episode season will pick up right after Claire (Caitriona Balfe) traveled through the stones to return to her life in 1948.
Now pregnant, she struggles with the fallout of her sudden re-appearance and its effect on her marriage to her first husband, Frank (Tobias Menzies). Meanwhile, in the 18th century, Jamie (Sam Heughan) suffers from the aftermath of his doomed last stand at the historic battle of Culloden, as well as the loss of Claire. As the years pass, Jamie and Claire attempt to make a life apart from one another, each haunted by the memory of their lost love.
The budding possibility that Claire can return to Jamie in the past breathes new hope into Claire’s heart, as well as new doubt. Separated by continents and centuries, Claire and Jamie must find their way back to each other but the question remains: when they find each other, will they be the same people who parted at the standing stones, all those years ago?
When season three premieres, viewers will be introduced to a familiar character with a very unfamiliar face. Fergus (Romann Berrux), the young French pickpocket that Claire and Jamie adopted as their pseudo-son in season two, will be played by a new actor as the role is aged up.
) will play the charming, devilishly handsome man that Fergus grew up to be, with a strong sense of loyalty and decorum, despite his unconventional upbringing of being raised in a brothel. He is the ultimate romantic, wearing his heart on his sleeve and falling in and out of love easily. However, Fergus’ devotion to Jamie has never wavered, making the Frenchman an integral part of the Fraser clan. Still, his debonair demeanor masks a longing for a lasting love and a permanent sense of belonging.
Another new face joining the cast for season three is Lauren Lyle, who will play one of Laoghaire’s (Nell Hudson) young daughters, Marsali.
The 18-year-old high-spirited girl, described as blonde and lovely, is just like her mother who was first seen in season one when her youthful crush on Jamie was halted by his marriage to Claire. However, Marsali has a rebellious and romantic mind of her own. She knows what she wants and she goes after it – reputation and propriety be damned.
Book readers know that Marsali will go on to play an important role in future seasons.
Another new face taking over a role previously established by a younger actor is David Berry, who has been cast to play Lord John Grey for season three.
Lord John "William" Grey, who was first seen in season two played by Oscar Kennedy, is a steadfast and honorable British subject. Torn between a finely-honed sense of familial duty and a strong moral compass of right and wrong, he is boyishly handsome with an upper class rearing -- the consummate gentleman. However, a scandal from his past has relegated Lord John to an undesirable position as governor of a desolate prison in Northern Scotland.
The last time that Jamie and Claire saw Lord John was when they tricked him into revealing the location of his fellow British soldiers by pretending that Claire was also a captive of the Highlander army. Lord John plays an important role in book three, and he also is the main character of his own spinoff series. Could Berry be in the beginning stages of launching another Starz series? Author Diana Gabaldon certainly thinks he could.
"I think that would be a fabulous basis for a series, even more so because Lord John's adventures are more episodic than the
I began writing those stories when someone had asked me to write a short story for an anthology, which I had never done before. It could lend itself to filming in any number of ways. It could be shot in shorter pieces, much like
. I think it could turn out well if Starz wanted to do that."
