I've said some of this myself in conversations with friends, but damn, she says it so beautifully. In my opinion, she's absolutely right.

And Lily always called him Sev. How special that must have made him feel...

Thanks for posting this link. It's a great read.

:D ur welcome. I also think it is very true, and very well written, almost poetic, but not quite.

and I agree, Sev probably made him feel incredibly special.

This is such a wonderful article! Thanks so much for posting it!

"Severus is the boy who could have been..." that sentence hit me so hard!

Thanks for posting the link to that lovely piece. So right on ! The duality between what we are and what we could be.

At the same time, it is interesting that Dumbledore called all his staff by their first name. On the other side, Severus always called the Headmaster "Dumbledore" or "Headmaster".

Besides, there's another character that calls Severus by his first name, while there is no feeling between them : Lord Voldemort. But maybe the Dark Lord sensed that he could have the devotion, respect and obedience of Severus by calling him like that. (Well, at the same time, he calls Lucius, Bella and the others by their first names.)

I think that Severus wanted to introduce some distance between himself and the others by calling them by their surname. The best example is with Remus Lupin, a man that shares many traits with him, as mentioned in the article.

Maybe that's why I always refer to "Severus" by his first name, when posting stuff about him here... (Or using "Prof. Snape", with respect.)

Very good points, LN, but I think with Remus he was a little conflicted. Remus never hurt him, even though he was a memeber of the Marauders...and when it came right down to it, Severus did save the werewolf's life more than once.

Nearly everyone calls Dumbledore Dumbledore, though...I think Professor McGonagall is the only one of the staff I've ever heard/read call him Albus.

With Voldemort, I think it was more calling the ones 'closest' to him by their first names, though there are a couple of exceptions. I don't think he ever called Rowle or Dolohov by their first names. And there was quite a lot of feeling between The Dark Lord and Severus...all on the Potions Master's side. Hate. Absolute hate, especially when Voldemort tells him where he got the Elder Wand from. I think he desired almost more than anything the destruction of the one responsible for the murder of his one true love. I think that's a big part of what kept him going.

But yeah...I agree, I've always prefered Severus as well.

(Gee, I can't seem to spell this morning)
