Chapter 3
We Find Out What Courtney Did
When we went to the jail were dad was it reminded me of the siku he came to our house, back when things were um, complicated. This siku was also the siku I first encountered total drama, and an example of how determent they were to hide it from us…
****Flashback****
“DUNCAN?!?!” My mom and I yell. I look past my *shudder* Dad and see his Junk-Truck. “So Dad, Still driving that crap of a truck?” I ask. I alisema dad the way I would say vomit au my brother’s gym shorts. “Evelyn!” My mom said. I went into Dominic’s room and I started shouting my head off. “Are wewe incredibly heartless, stupid, au are wewe so misguided that wewe think bringing Duncan here would be ok? wewe know I hate him! He abandoned us!” He majibu kwa saying, “He abandoned wewe and Gw- Mom. Not me. He obviously hates wewe and loves me! He wants a boy not a stupid girl” He barked. I felt tears well up in my eyes. I went to mom and Duncan. I said, “Mom, I’m sorry. And Dad……… I guess. But I still won’t visit wewe and Courtney.” He scooped me in a hug and said, “That’s my little girl.” Dominic came out and alisema he was sorry for calling me stupid. For once we were almost a family. But, of course, Miss Holier-Than-Thou came up and yelled in Dad’s face. Courtney was wearing a fancy gray T-shirt (yes I alisema fancy) and white pants, despite the late summer heat.
“Duncan what are wewe doing here?” Courtney demanded. Like she didn’t know I was Duncan’s kid. But the least she could do is acknowledge us, her step-kids. “Well Miss Uptight Chick, I was visiting my kids.” Duncan said. I smiled at my Dad’s description of Courtney. “Well Mr. Too-Cool-For-My-Wife, I have been at nyumbani thinking ‘Where, oh where, has my husband gone?’!” Courtney yelled. I smiled and alisema “Why is this entertaining?” My mom looked like she thought what I alisema was funny. wewe could see it in her eyes. “Duncan, Courtney, please stop fighting.” Mom said. Dominic and I went into the TV room. “Real Deal?” I asked. That’s our inayopendelewa channel. He nodded, and the parents came in the room. I turned on the TV and three words sputtered out: “Total. Drama. Island!” All of the adults whipped their heads around and yelled “TURN IT OFF RIGHT NOW!” I felt tears well up in my eyes for the sekunde time that day, and pressed the power button.
****End Flashback****
“Ah, Gwen. I was wondering when wewe would onyesha up.” The officer said. Mom must have known him because she smiled and said, “Good to see you, Paul.” Paul turned to me and said, “Evelyn correct?” I smiled and nodded. “Duncan talks about you. I guard his section, so we talk.” I smiled, trying to imagine a prisoner and a guard having a casual conversation. “Can we visit Duncan?” Mom asked. “Sure Gwen.” He led us down a corridor until we came up to Dad, cleaning his nails with a toothpick. “Hey, Juvie.” Mom said. He looked up and smiled. “Hey Sunshine, hujambo Ell.” Paul left us to talk. “How’s Jay?” Dad asked. We told him everything he missed. “So any news on Trent’s death?” I cringed, remembering the interview with Real Deal News. “Well it was like this.”
So we told the story of the interview:
“So Miss Martinez, how are wewe feeling after the tragic discovery of your husband’s official cause of death?” Courtney was wearing the most horrible outfit ever. Puke green vest over a turquoise top, and black pants. “It is just”, She paused, “Its so stressful knowing my ex-husband is the one that caused all this.” “I completely understand Courtney.” Ugh, what a fake! “The only good thing I ever got out of that man was my son, Ryan and his winnings from TDA.” I sat open-mouthed. SHE SYPHEND THE MONEY? That means… Dad is a… I can’t say it. As much as I used to hate him, I upendo him now. He is my father.
