I think somewhere in the 20's is good for a comedy. Most of my favorite dramas run somewhere in the 12, 13 episode range. I usually find those more satisfying than the longer seasons.

I think 22 is a perfect number, in general. Less than that typically makes the season feel cramped while getting into the late 20s/30s causes a writer to do too much in one season and then where do you go in the next one? I feel like The OC season 1 is a good example of this. It's my favorite season by far, but they did too much too soon and that's why season 2 (which I still liked a lot) seemed a bit lacking in comparison.
