Kowalski sat up from examining Private. His face was expressionless.
"This isn't good," he said, gravely...
CC gasped loudly.
"NO!" she cried. "Don't talk gravely. I hate it when a scienist au a doctor talks gravely! IT MEANS THERE'S NO HOPE!" And she burst into tears, crying loudly. Skipper slapped her hard, and CC stopped crying.
"Enough with the water works!" he snapped. CC wiped her eyes.
"I'm sorry, Skipper," she sniffed. "I'm being zaidi emotional about this than I should." She stood shakily. "We'd better go back to the zoo." She turned to leave, but her steps were unsteady, and she stumbled a bit. Skipper looked at Kowalski with concern.
"I'll keep an eye on her," Kowalski said.
Before long, the four penguins were making their way back to the zoo. Private was lying in a stretcher Rico regurgitated, and he and Skipper were carrying it. Kowalski was walking behind with CC, keeping an eye on her, like he said. It was a good thing, too, because just then, she suddenly fainted. Kowalski caughter her in his flippers, and started carrying her. He caught up to Skipper and Rico. Private, on the stretcher, was dozing, and very weak, and Kowalski was worried he couldn't do anything for him.
"Skipper," he said. "CC is inaonyesha the same symptoms that Private is."
"That doesn't mean anything to me, Kowalski," Skipper replied.
"I mean, she seems to have the same sickness Private has, whatever it is." Skipper stopped suddenly, and the stretcher handles fell from his flippers, and Rico had kept walking. The juu half of the stretcher fell with a thud, jolting Private out of his restless snooze. Skipper quickly picked up the stretcher.
"Sorry, Private," he muttered, then looked at Kowalski. "In all seriousness, she's got the same thing?" he asked. Kowalski nodded. "When wewe dissappeared," Skipper continued, "did wewe feel any pricks, like needles, in your flipper?" Kowalski pondered this a moment.
"I can't say I have," he concluded. Skipper sighed.
"Private and CC alisema they did, but Rico hasn't. Private and CC are the only ones inaonyesha any signs of sickness."
kwa now, CC had reagined consiousness. She rested in Kowalski's flippers, and sighed. They had made it to Central Park already, and thunder rumbled in the sky. kwa now it was 1:00 AM. Lightning flashed, lighting up sections of the storm clouds overhead. The wind picked up, ruffling the penguins' feathers.
"Kowalski," CC said. "I'll be ok walking." Kowalski looked unsure, but put her down, all the same. CC wrapped her flipper around his should for a little support. Private, too, was now walking, but staying kwa Skipper's side.
Rico, who had gone on ahead, suddenly stopped, and jumped up and down, yelling like crazy. Kowalski and Skipper ran on ahead, while CC and Private tried to keep up. Once they made it, Skipper was holding some sort of note in his flipper.
"What does it say?" Private asked. Skipper shrugged.
"I don't know. I can't read."
"Here, let me," CC sighed, taking the note.
Dear penguins... and humans...
I see I have managed to scare you, seperate you, and weaken you. Haha. I have aliyopewa three younglongs an injection which infects them with a fetal desise with no known cure. Two of them, as I am sure wewe have already determinded, are Private and CC. But the third, heh, well. You'll just have to find them. I am not done with wewe yet, though! Each one of wewe will experiance one, last trauma; the loss of something dear to you. I will make wewe suffer, one at a time. Starting with...
"Starting with who?" Private asked.
"There is no more," CC said, turning the note this way and that. A small card fell out of the folded paper, and Priavte picked it up.
"What about this?" he asked, handing it to her. CC took it, and read it to herself.
"Starting with Skipper," she finally said...
