"Starting with who?" Private asked.
"There is no more," CC said, turning the note this way and that. A small card fell out of the folded paper, and Private picked it up.
"What about this?" he asked, handing it to her. CC took it, and read it to herself.
"Starting with Skipper," she finally said...
Skipper smirked.
"HA!" he said, loudly. "Whoever this is, they don't know me. There's nothing that I care for so much that it would destroy me if they were gone!" Just then, a huge, forked lightning flashed in the distance, and all the lights in the city went out. Though the fog had long lifted, it was still very, very dark. Only one light remained on, and the five penguins huddled underneath its inviting glow. Private saw something from the corner of his eye, and gasped. Skipper noticed it too.
Out of the shadows, a small, brown animal dragged itself towards them. At first, none of the birds recognised it, until it came closer, and collapsed at Skipper's feet.
"Marlene?" he gasped, kneeling down and holding her in his wings. Marlene looked up at him, weakly. She pulled herself closer to his face, and kissed him lightly on the beak, and lay back into his wings. Skipper looked at her. Her tail was torn, her nose was dripping a little blood, and the whites of her eyes were red. She looked up at him, weak and zaidi dead than alive, but found the strength to whisper.
"I.... I-I ...l-love... you...." And she was gone.
Skipper lay her lifelss body on the ground, and stood.
"No..." he muttered, looking at the once lively otter. "No! NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" He fell to his knees, and wept. Private went up to him, and wrapped his flippers around his shoulders. CC noticed something in Marlene's paw, and took it.
"Another note," she muttered, unfolding the crumpled paper. It only had two words on it;
Kowalski's next...
