Martha Lambert

Twelve-year-old Martha Lambert was last seen on November 27, 1985 in Elkton, Florida. Her case was initially investigated as a runaway, but the police eventually stated that she didn't leave home voluntarily.

At the time she went missing, Martha had a troubled family life; her dad was an alcoholic, there was loud fighting at the Lambert home, the kids had spent time in foster care due to child abuse and Martha's brothers had previously run away from home.

The police suspect that her older brother, David Lambert (who was 14 years old at the time) was responsible for Martha's disappearance and that he gave conflicting statements about when he last saw Martha.

David initially claimed that Martha left home after dinner and refused to say where she was going, he saw her walking down the street towards Lil' Champ on State Road 207 and that he saw Martha get inside of a black car. Her mom, Margaret noted that while she was searching for Martha, David was laughing for no reason.

In 2009 (almost twenty-four years after Martha went missing), David confessed to murdering Martha over an argument about money while playing at the abandoned Florida Memorial College near their home and buried her body in a shallow grave on the grounds of the college. The police believed his story, but they didn't file charges against him because he was 14 years old at the time of the incident and the statute of limitations for manslaughter had expired.

After David's confession was made public, Margaret told the media that she didn't believe him, saying that he often makes up stories to get attention. After Margaret's statement to the media, David took back his confession, saying that he told the police what he wanted to hear and said that he is "mentally incompetent" and has emotional issues. Despite David retracting his confession, the police believe that he was telling the truth about what he did to Martha.

Martha's case classified as an endangered missing person and foul play is suspected in her case.
