Fourteen-year-old Dean Marie Peters was last seen on February 5, 1981 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was attending her little brother's wrestling practice at Forest Hills Central Middle School with her mom when she said she was going to the restroom and would return shortly; however, she never returned.

Dean never went to the restroom and was last seen walking out of the door of the school's gymnasium. The school's custodian, Arthur Diaz was considered a possible suspect in her disappearance, but authorities later ruled him out.

Two days before her disappearance, Dean had gotten into a fight with two girls over a boy. The girls allegedly threatened her and told her to stay away from the boy. Bruce Bunch, a seventeen-year-old boy knew one of the girls from the altercation.

On the day Dean went missing, Bruce supposedly saw her and drove his car at her to scare her, but he hit a patch of ice and accidentally backed over or ran over with the car which killed her. Bruce might've hid her body in the brush and possibly buried it in the Snow Avenue area. Bruce told versions of his story to various people, including his first and second wife. He was never charged or questioned in Dean's case and died from a heart attack in 2008; however, the police suspect that he was responsible.

In July of 2021, a man named Jim Frisbie was charged with perjury for lying about knowing what happened to Dean on the day she went missing and he allegedly "willfully impeded and interfered with other witnesses" in her case.

Although she was declared legally dead in 1991, Dean's case is still classified as a non-family abduction.
